I'm gonna have to go back and listen to stuff from the first half of the year, it feels so long ago for some reason and I can't remember too many releases from then that really grabbed me. Anyways here's a rough top 15 for now, out of the 197 records I listened to this year which was an increase from 2018 (175 albums). The sequencing past the top 5 doesn't really matter at all. I'll come back and edit this a few times and add some stuff to it: Greet Death - New Hell (Favs: You're Gonna Hate What You've Done, Entertainment, New Hell) Slaughter Beach, Dog - Safe And Also No Fear (Favs: Black Oak, Map of the Stars, Good Ones) From Indian Lakes - Dimly Lit (Favs: Garden Bed, A Bad Dream, Your Heartbeat Against Mine) Jay Som - Anak Ko (Favs: Anak Ko, Tenderness, Devotion) DIIV - Deceiver (Favs: The Spark, Blankenship, Like Before You Were Born) Somos - Prison On A Hill (Favs: Mediterranean, Dreamless, Untraceable Past) Chastity - Home Made Satan (Favs: Sun Poisoning, Anxiety, Strife) Jaws - The Ceiling (Favs:) Oso Oso - Basking In The Glow (Favs: a morning song, the view, impossible game) Wiki - OOFIE (Favs: Grim, The Routine, Back Then) __________________________________________________________________________________ Denzel Curry - ZUU Sleep Talk - Everything In Colour Pup - Morbid Stuff Danny Brown uknowhatimsayin? Webbed Wing - Bike Ride Across The Moon Julia Shapiro - Perfect Vision Twin Peaks - Lookout Low Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind White Denim - Side Effects White Reaper - You Deserve Love Overall there were some amazing records that came out this year but comparing it to 2018, I had wayyyyyy more stuff that I really loved and return to from last year. Last year I had a top 50 and this year I can barely come up with 20 that I loved/liked a ton.
First year I haven’t been able to narrow down to a Top 20 Ranking. Below is a top 30 of the year. Albums 1-10 are ranked accordingly, 11-30 have no ranking and can shift depending on many factors. Heart Attack Man - Fake Blood 19. Youth Fountain - Letters to Our Former Selves 20. The Japanese House - Good at Falling Thoughts on the above list: How in the hell is Out of Service not a huge thing in these forums and in the scene? When I first listened to Burden it was the first I heard of them. I went in knowing this was a Chorus.FM members band so my expectations were low so I was super surprised to not only be blown away on initial listen but to crave this album at the gym even until this day. This album gave me massive "Brand New" vibes which is amazing because this release filled some of the huge void I've had in my musical pallet since the shocking demise of Brand New. The Dream State release is nothing ground breaking musically but I listened to it as much as anything all year and consistently enjoyed it. Both the releases by Selfish Things and Cory Wells need to reach way more people. Much of the order outside of the top 6 is just randomly thrown about. The As December Falls release is a female fronted band but at times they remind me of Northstar, it has something to do with the vocal delivery but they also have some bite with some revved up guitars solos mixed in. Honorable Mentions: 1.Silverstein - Redux: The First 10 Years (only not way up near the top of the above list as this isn't really new music) 2. The Almost - Fear Caller 3.
