Neither 2 or 3 came remotely close in the end. - I have not fallen as in love with an album as quickly as I did “Schmaltz” in a long, long time - I expanded my horizons this year as someone not too into country music, happy to have discovered three great country/country-leaning albums this year - The Paul McCartney album was way better than I anticipated it being - I come back to “Painkillers” more I think, but I think this Brian Fallon record has better all-around songs - The Wonder Years fell off hard for me, when it came out it was probably figured to land in the top 5 EDIT: Feel like i should note that far and away my biggest disappointment of the year was Frank Turner's "Be More Kind". It was so highly anticipated.

You have no idea how stressed I was last year when I saw I’d have to decide between a Brian Fallon or Frank Turner album and which would be better. Be More Kind was just so meh, and I still can’t comprehend how that happened. Frank brings a level of energy to everything he does and that album felt so lifeless and lacking that energy I came to admire. 1933, Blackout, and Be More Kind are fine songs (go figure the singles) but the rest truly does nothing for me. Still saw him 4 times this year despite it, lol. Perks of Boston.

I think NMG is the best album to come other this year however, the Emery album ended up meaning a ton to me. Thrice ended up way lower than I expected. All get out was a dark horse and that album slays I’ve been revisiting these albums a lot lately and this was a great year for music *Pinegrove is a controversial artist. So if you are looking to discover this artist on my list please educate yourself on the actions of their lead singer and primary song writer. Evan Stevens Hall
oh hell yeah, his live show is hard to beat. i'm sure even the new songs i don't like translate well live because of his energy.
1. Lupe Fiasco - DROGAS Wave 2. Mewithoutyou - [Untitled] 3. Saba - CARE FOR ME 4. Vein - Errorzone 5. Thrice - Palms 6. Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die and Love Will Bury It 7. Birds in Row - We Already Lost the World 8. Palm Reader - Braille 9. The Wonder Years - Sister Cities 10. Denzel Curry - TA13OO Didn't spend enough time with, but likely will make an updated list: Cursive - Vitriola Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want Emery - Eve 3 hip-hop albums, and 2 out of the top 3 is very unusual for me. Those top 3 spots hit me the hardest emtionally this year, thus deserving their positions.
AOTY 2018 1. mewithoutYou - [UNTITLED] LP and EP 2. Coheed & Cambria - The Unheavenly Creatures 3. Pinegrove - Skylight 4. Pianos Become the Teeth - Wait For Love 5. Foxing - Nearer My God 6. Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour 7. The Story So Far - Proper Dose 8. Emery - Eve 9. Turnstile - Time and Space 10. Dance Gavin Dance - Artificial Selection 11. Tiny Moving Parts - Swell 12. Between the Buried and Me - Automata I/II 13. Fickle Friends - You Are Someone Else Thoughts: Coheed are my favorite band, but I tried to be objective with this. MWY absolutely came out of nowhere and is an absolutely perfect album. I wouldn't change a thing. Coheed is the best they've done in a long time, but there are things i think could've been better, so that's really where the difference between it and MWY is. Almost 1a and 1b. 3-10 were really hard to rank, each one has an argument for the 3 spot for me. Very solid year overall for me personally. @teebs41, Emery did make my list, haha. AOTY 2017 1. Turnover - Good Nature 2. Circa Survive - The Amulet 3. Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile to the Surface 4. Tyler Childers - Purgatory 5. Mastodon - Emperor of Sand 6. Menzingers - After the Party 7. Chris Stapleton - Songs From A Room: Vol. 1 & 2 8. Paramore - After Laughter 9. Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit - The Nashville Sound 10. Polyphia - The Most Hated Looking back, I should've had Manchester number 1. It has stuck with me more than the other two. I also should've taken off Jason Isbell or Polyphia and added in Tigers Jaw. I've listened to SPIN a lot more than most of these records.
