Janelle Monae is definitely my Album of the Year. The rest is a loose ranking, but most of this could switch around. I may even change some of this later, we'll see. I also made a top 40 on my post in the 2018 album thread, but I feel like there's no point to making a "best" list if I just include everything I liked this year. That being said: Pusha T, Lucy Dacus, and Courtney Barnett all just barely missed the cut and could really pretty easily be swapped with some of the other ones on here.

 

Feels like Foxing and The 1975 are gonna be 1 & 2 for the site.

Takeaways: Coheed blew me away...and proved they've still got their magic. Colter Wall continues to create music that makes me wish I were living on a ranch somewhere in Montana. He's quite the opposite of Steve Moakler, but both make music that captures a similar feeling...and if you don't know either of them, stop everything and get acquainted. Super American...who are these guys, where did they come from, and how did they make such a fun album?? And finally...We are witnessing one of the greatest bands to come out of this generation in The 1975. The new album is more of a grower for me than it seems to be for most...but there's no denying they're probably creating the most important music today.

I love love love that Years and Years album! Feels like it got seriously overlooked

 

i feel like there were a lot of really good albums this year, but not a lot that seemed far and away better than others. looking forward to putting my lists together to see how everything shakes out.

I've mostly listened to Asian music this year, so I've been missing out on a lot of releases. Probably will go through your guys' lists and check out the #1-#3 spots and see what chorus members have been digging in 2018

 

I feel like this is one of those years where I just can’t let myself get too hung up on ranking — nearly anything landing in my top 20 could be switched around. Still doing little write ups for my top 50 but will post an actual list later on

Agreed! That band is phenomenal. Loved their debut and this was definitely not a sophomore slump luckily.
