Also, no doubt in my mind that Julien belongs here, but I simply haven't listened yet.
MUNA - About U Angus and Julia Stone - Snow Sol Heilo - Skinhorse Playground Out Lines - Conflats Gordi - Reservoir SZA - Ctrl Lorde - Melodrama HAIM - Something To Tell You Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger In the Alps Julien Baker - Turn Out the Lights This was the first time in forever where I can't remember really going out of my way all that often to find new artists, so that's something I hope to rediscover next year. In saying that, I can't praise my top three enough - I knew from the moment I heard it that MUNA wouldn't be dislodged from number one. That'll go down as one of the most influential and timeless records in my collection. Stunning album.
This might change as I explore late November and December albums more, and as I strive to get to 100+ albums on the year, but as of today this is my list. 2017 AOTY List (+ Top Song)*: Manchester Orchestra – A Black Mile To The Surface - “The Silence” The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die – Always Foreign - “Fuzz Minor” Julien Baker – Turn Out the Lights - “Hurt Less” Algiers – The Underside of Power - "Hymn for an Average Man” Kendrick Lamar – DAMN. - “HUMBLE.” Vagabon – Infinite Worlds - “Minneapolis” Alex Lahey – I Love You Like A Brother - “I Haven’t Been Taking Care of Myself” Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps - “Would You Rather” P.O.S – Chill, dummy - “Faded” Jay-Z - 4:44 - “Smile” Honorable Mentions (Alphabetical Order): Big K.R.I.T. - 4eva Is A Mighty Long Time - “Mixed Messages” Big Thief - Capacity - "Mythological Beauty" Feist – Pleasure - “Any Party” The Front Bottoms – Going Grey - “You Used to Say (Holy Fuck)” Kevin Devine – We Are Who We’ve Always Been - “Guard Your Gates” Lorde - Melodrama - “Green Light” Mount Eerie - A Crow Looked at Me - “Crow” The Mynabirds - Be Here Now - "Golden Age" The National - Sleep Well Beast - “The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness” OWEL - Live from Audio Pilot Studio - “All I’ll Ever Know” Paramore – After Laughter - “Hard Times” Residente - Residente - “Desencuentro” Slaughter Beach, Dog - Birdie - “Gold and Green” SZA - Ctrl - "Drew Barrymore” Vince Staples – Big Fish Theory - “Yeah Right” I didn't listen to a lot of EP's this year but a special shoutout to @teebs41 & Out of Service's "What We Bring With Us," can't wait for the next release! *Note: Brand New's Science Fiction would have been on this list. Similar to @Kevin360, I can't deny the impact the album had on me at the time, but I can't in good conscience rank it against these other albums.
Wow thanks for the shoutout! I’m really glad you enjoyed it, can’t wait to get the full length to you!
too hard - so many good stuff so instead my 2018 list (order could move) 1. Pianos Become the Teeth 2. Seahaven 3. Restorations 4. A Great Big Pile of Leaves 5. [Placeholder for whatever Mike Kozelek releases]

Never heard of Emperor X but @cwhit riding this hard for it made me check it out and my man you threw a bomb into my list
the live videos are better than the recorded stuff!!! this is the best live video ever. he is the best performer living
wouldn't know about a lot of the bands on my list if you hadn't posted about them but it's an a+ list casey
My goal this year is to have this BEFORE January 1. Hasn't happened in two years, but it's good to have goals.
I feel like I'm close to done with a top 30, some albums are obviously still coming out that could very well do some damage in the second half of my list but I don't really feel like letting it sit for much longer
First attempt at a top 25. Ridicule at your leisure: 25. Dawn Ray'd - "The Unlawful Assembly" 24. Darkest Hour - "Godless Prophets and The Migrant Flora" 23. Cryptic Void - "Into the Desert Temple" 22. Woe - "Hope Attrition" 21. Hexis - "Tando Ashanti" 20. Ledge - "Cold Hard Concrete" 19. Charly Bliss - "Guppy" 18. Chepang - "Dadhelo: A Tale of Wildfire" 17. Friendship - "I & II" 16. Monolord - "Rust" 15. Firewalker - "S/T" 14. Satan's Hallow - "S/T" 13. Memoriam - "For The Fallen" 12. Exit Order - "Hysteria" 11. Makthaverskan - "III" 10. Captain We're Sinking - "The King of No Man" 9. Concealed Blade - "S/T" 8. Sheer Mag - "Need to Feel Your Love" 7. White Death - "S/T" 6. Converge - "The Dusk in Us" 5. Ulver - "The Assassination of Julius Caesar" 4. Incendiary - "Thousand Mile Stare" 3. The Menzingers - "After the Party" 2. Full of Hell - "Trumpeting Ecstasy" 1. Power Trip - "Nightmare Logic" Biggest surprise: Ulver. Maybe I've just been sleeping on them the past 10 years, but The Assassination of Julius Caesar blew me away. It started a darkwave/synthpop kick for me that will probably last until next year. Biggest disappointment: Captain We're Sinking. You're probably asking yourself right now? How can something I ranked 10 be a disappointment? The Future is Cancelled is probably my favorite single album of the last 10 years. The King of No Man was a solid follow-up, but it fell victim to me overhyping it a bit too much personally. I learned my lesson for next time. :(
TR/ST - Destroyer This video is great and this song is great and more people should listen to TR/ST. New track reminds me of The National. Not relevant to this thread aside from it being one of the better videos I've seen this year, but everyone is in here and there's like 2 people on this site who fuck with the band.
