perhaps my biggest disappointment of the year honestly, ugh i am still ridiculously hyped to hang with them next week though and see these new songs live
For me, the biggest disconnect was the new Rainer Maria album. I wanted to like it so badly, but maybe in the future I’ll get into it.
- Linkin Park "One More Light" - 36 Crazyfists "Lanterns" - Rise Against "Wolves" - Story of the Year "Wolves" - Foo Fighters "Concrete and Gold" - AFI "Blood Album" - Avenged Sevenfold "The Stage" I listened to a ton of music this year, I guess just not a lot of new.
I like Story overall more as a band than the others, but LP was my most listened to new album this year, 2nd was 36 CF which impressed me a ton. Rise Against really tool it up a lot from their last few releases too and put out such a good album. I just had to be honest even though SOTY are my boys.
Paramore - After Laughter The Front Bottoms - Going Grey Bleachers - Gone Now Lorde - Melodrama The Maine - Lovely Little Lonely Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory Tyler, the Creator - Flower Boy Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life Kendrick Lamar - DAMN. I've posted more thoughts about him in the album thread. Honorable Mentions: Citizen - As You Please Majid Jordan - The Space Between Vagabon - Infinite Worlds Turnover - Good Nature Vic Mensa - The Autobiography The Menzingers - After the Party Fleet Foxes - Crack Up SZA - Ctrl Ratboys - GN The Flaming Lips - Oczy Mlody Favorite albums I discovered this year that weren't new, but were new to me and had a big impact on my year: Bad Bad Hats - Psychic Reader Paul Simon - Graceland Mitski - Puberty 2 Fleet Foxes - S/T Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf John Mayer - Continuum
1. Turnover - good nature 2. Glassjaw- material control 3. Citizen- as you please 4. Code orange- forever 5. Paramore-after laughter That new acceptance record ruled too Having a hard time with the brand new record because I was obsessed with it and cannot deny the impact this record had on me in those first few weeks following its release. I really enjoyed the record before everything hit the fan and hadn’t had that type of experience with an album in a long while. I have good memories of my own that are triggered by the music. It’s my time capsule.
Between listening to not much that has come out this year and one of the albums that would have made the list being omitted after recent events, I now present you with a paltry top 3: 1. Mastodon - Emperor of Sand 2. Foo Fighters - Concrete and Gold 3. Acceptance - Colliding By Design
ALL IS AS ALL SHOULD BE BY THE DEAR HUNTER All Is As All Should Be, by The Dear Hunter and Science Fiction so good
Will spend the next couple weeks thinking about what records stuck out to me, but off the top of my head I think my top 3 are: Brand New - Science Fiction The National - Sleep Well Beast The Menzingers - After The Party
1. Smith Street Band - More Scared of You... 2. Lorde - Melodrama 3. Iron Chic - You Can't Stay Here gutted to see only one other person mention Smith Street and for it to be in the 20's on that list. one of my favorite records period and a bonafide classic. puts After the Party to shame and Menz are my second favorite band.
I want to really retool my list and make sure I listen to everything in my top 15-20 this week before solidifying. Theres a few things that have been surprising me that may craw their way in and push some other things out that I thought were sure things like Tigers Jaw and Citizen. really enjoying everyones lists so far and can't wait to check out a few things that arn't on mine or that I havn't heard yet!
