Took me forever to figure out what QOTSA song is sampled on Man after reading that P4k blurb. Then realized it's from the one album I haven't heard.

Figure that I won't get around to the albums I've been meaning to relisten to until well into 2017, so may as well make my list now. Definitely listened to the least amount of new music of any year since 2008/2009, but the albums that stuck with me I absolutely love. 1. Pinegrove- Cardinal 2. Every Time I Die - Low Teens Both of these made a massive push over the month of December to overtake my #3 pick for the top spot. I could almost go either way on which is #1, but I think Pinegrove wins by being the more diverse of the two emotionally. ETID, while fantastic and Keith's best lyrical contribution yet, is so fucking bleak lol. Undoubtedly, still fantastic. 3. The Dirty Nil- Higher Power My AOTY from its February release till earlier this month. Can't express enough how fun this album is. The fact that a couple songs were released in years past kind of validated my opinion of slotting it down to #3. Seeing them play almost this entire album in full this year was an absolute blast. 4. The Hotelier - Goodness 5. PUP - The Dream is Over I absolutely love that Hotelier album, but just don't connect with it in the same way as the top 3. A beautiful, uplifting album that I think exceeds HLNPTI. Could very well change after seeing a few songs from it live in January. As for PUP, I think I still prefer the self-titled, but they delivered everything I wanted in this album. If This Tour into DVP into Doubts might be the best three song sequence of the year. 6. Into It Over It- Standards Always like Into It Over It better when Evan's writing either his fastest, "rockiest" material (Vis Major, Adult Contempt) or acoustic numbers (Open Casket, The Circle of the Same Ideas). Intersections seemed to have more material in the middle, which is why I think I preferred this album much more. 7-10 are basically interchangeable Direct Hit!- Wasted Mind Gates- Parallel Lives Joyce Manor- Cody Touché Amoré- Stage Four And 5 Honorable Mentions Balance and Composure - Light We Made The Dillinger Escape Plan- Dissociation Hail The Sun- Culture Scars Hands Like Houses- Dissonants O'Brother- Endless Light Top 10 Favorite Songs Pinegrove- New Friends Every Time I Die- Petal The Hotelier- Sun The Dirty Nil - Friends in the Sky Into It Over It- Vis Major PUP- DVP Direct Hit! - Forced to Sleep Restorations- See Caspian- Castles High, Marble Bright Diarrhea Planet- Ain't a Sin to Win
Listening to The Dirty Nil today after seeing their Audiotree Live performance and I'm hooked...grungey punky goodness and exactly what I needed this week.
Deftones 'Gore', Metallica 'Hardwired', Thrice 'TBEITBN' and TBS 'Tidal Wave' is on everyone's right? Right?
Haven't enjoyed much other than a couple individual songs for TBS in years, but I absolutely was blown away by Hardwired. Such a great album that I wasn't expecting from Metallica. Love Thrice's new one, Salt and Shadow is one of the most beautiful songs they've ever written, and Love Love Love Gore...
