Rare along the shadow sighting. It finished 15 for me, it was hard to place, it's an excellent post hardcore record but it was weird following descensus which imo was a much better Heavier Anthony green record
Yeah I don't know, I really enjoyed it and kept coming back to it over and over throughout the entire year. No doubt in my mind that whatever Circa puts out next year will be better though.
i'm working on my songs list and i feel weird because my favorite pinegrove song is new friends but i put that on last year's list, lol. but then some songs like menzingers or cloud nothings i wouldn't put on this year's list because they're on releases coming out next year, however in the case of pinegrove it was on "everything so far" so SHRUG
If the single came out in 16 but the album doesn't drop till 17, I still use the song in my 2016 list (I'm looking at you Menzingers and Japandroids)
i made a playlist of one song from each of the 50 albums on my list (minus beyonce since this isn't tidal) if you wanna peep it
Honestly the thing I'm most bummed to see under-represented is Kvelertak. Just love my token metal album everyone! Jeeze!
The Frightnrs album is dope as hell and the story behind the band is tragic and everyone should check them out. S/O Jeff Rosenstock

I saw Thomas last week at the Kevin Devine show. I wanted to say hi and that I liked the podcast but I was very intimidated at the size of him.
2016 was wild for the entire world, it seemed, but especially tumultuous personally. In times of loss, Little Seeds by Shovels & Rope, with its persistence throughout that "sorrow will not win" [from "Mourning Song"] made me feel strong. The previous three albums by the duo have all been fantastic, though lacking somewhat on the closer for each one. This year's record nailed it, with the back-to-back tracks of "Eric's Birthday," featuring a recording of the mother of a friend of the band who died as she recalls her late sons birth, and "This Ride," which is quick to remind me that life is hard, that is it loses your keys and leaves you crying in the rain, but ends with Eric's mother proclaiming that she doesn't want to be sad. She wants to be happy. I, too, want to be happy. The album also, amazingly, added to my short but growing living playlists of "Songs about members of The Band" and "Civil War Songs," with "The Last Hawk" and "Missionary Ridge," respectively.
