I think every list I ever make would change soon after. Off the top my my head I know Kaleidoscope Heart was like 8th or some shit the year it came out, which it just baffling of me.
2015 1. Fightstar - Behind the Devil's Back 2. mewithoutYou - Pale Horses 3. Nate Ruess - Grand Romantic 4. I the Mighty - Connector 5. Grimes - Art Angels 6. Frank Turner - Positive Songs for Negative People 7. Nicole Dollanganger 8. Kamelot - Haven 9. Carly Rae Jepson - Emotion 10. Death Cab for Cutie - Kintsugi Still exactly the same as last year. I don't think I've listened to anything new from 2015 this year though.
welp. I must have heard a different album because it was beautiful. Although, I say that, but I don't even make year-end lists so technically they weren't in my top 15 either.
Don't know where to find my 2015 list, but The Tallest Man on Earth would definitely still be my number 1.
What specific objections did you have? I thought it was their tightest album compositionally yet. It really doesn't have much bs on it. Just a lot of great songs.
Damn I'm surprised after all the praise that To Pimp A Butterfly got it isn't appearing in any of those re-done 2015 lists
It just bored the shit out of me and it had a lot of parts that I found outright grating. I only listened the once so I can't go into too much detail but I did not like it at all.
It would end up in my list (if I made one) but it's not my fav BTBAM album by any means. I'm really pumped to hear Dan's new side project (featuring members of Haken), Nova Collective. EDIT: I'm one of those few prog metal posters @cwhit
Redone 2015 list, I guess! Butch Walker - Afraid of Ghosts Jason Isbell - Something More Than Free Noah Gundersen - Carry the Ghost Dawes - All Your Favorite Bands Chris Stapleton - Traveller Logan Brill - Shuteye Turnpike Troubadours - Turnpike Troubadours Kacey Musgraves - Pageant Material Mandolin Orange - Such Jubilee Matt Nathanson - Show Me Your Fangs Order of the back five changed a bit and I swapped out Will Hoge for Turnpike Troubadours. Overall, last year's list is probably the one I most stand by of all the EOTY lists I've ever made.
Apparently. I don't know. I thought this site was more appreciative of good shit no matter the genre. No offense but how the hell does someone expect a prog record to click with them after one listen?
Spraynard (their album was probably my favorite), Kacey Musgraves, Pusha T, August Alsina, Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment, Tinashe, Dr. Dre, Fashawn had projects I remember enjoying in 2015. I'm still working on my list for 2016, trying to get it to 25.
I don't expect to get everything out of it in one listen but if I actively dislike that first listen I'm probably not going back. I only checked it out because I liked Colors a lot on my first listen.
I've never REALLY liked his solo albums, they've been just alright to me. (Except the Giles record he did on Victory... that was a fucking joke). This is Dan's third side project and we've still yet to get a proper Glass Casket album since BTBAM finalized this lineup a damn decade ago. They kept saying it would happen... Wes Haunch (ex-The Faceless) joined and then they went quiet again.
