Side note: This new site is supposed to be a Bandcamp competitor, if anyone is into trying a new platform. https://www.subvert.fm/
I really want to upgrade my home recording setup. What do you all use for your audio interfaces and mics? For the last 8 years I've been using a Scarlett Solo as the interface and the AKG P220 microphone. But would love to upgrade both to something better sounding.
I have a HK Tubemeister 18 head with no cab, running directly into my Scarlett 2i2 to my laptop. Takes minimal space and there's no need for microphones. A couple pedals here and there, but mostly my sound comes from the direct-out of the amplifier. I love it. And every time I try something new, I never like it enough and go back to old faithful.
Ah cool! I'm now realizing that my Scarlett solo is the 1st gen, and there already at the 4th gen. May upgrade to the 2i2 4th gen in hopes of a quality upgrade.
Honestly, it's probably not the old model thats hindering you. I'm gonna rock my 2nd gen until it absolutely breaks. haha.
i love the 2nd gen. unless you need more inputs, its tough to say a modern interface is truly limiting recording quality. i would focus on room treatment, pre-amps, and mics. sometimes the least sexy gear produces the best sonic returns
Also curious what type of mic you all use. I've only ever used condenser mics, but a friend of mine swears by the Shure SM7B dynamic mic as the best for vocals.
