How is everyone feeling about the comps right now? Think they're doable, or do we need to change anything up? I can push the covers comp date to be after originals if that would be easier. I don't know how many people plan on recording new originals, so I'm not sure what the workload is like for people. But we could restructure it to be a standard one due date a month instead of the two at once thing. Just trying to get an idea of where people are and what they think is manageable. Also, does anyone have songs they want to call out?

 

i honestly don’t know if i’ll get covers done. i’ll do originals for sure though

 

I'm not 100% sure if I can get something in for either so take this with a grain of salt... but pushing back the originals due date a bit would be helpful for me.

I wrote my original but haven’t recorded anything yet. The cover I made up the arrangement but also haven’t recorded anything lol

I’ve got no plans for this weekend though so I’m hoping I can just buckle down and bust them out in 2 days

 

I won't be able to submit to the originals like I hoped, but I'm pushing to get the cover done in time. Wouldn't be opposed to a bit more time, but also the deadline is motivating me to work on it.

 

Alright, so general vibe, doing two at once was a fun experiment but maybe a bit much. So, here's a quick poll on how we want to move stuff around: Due Dates

Again, if anyone needs help mixing their songs or anything I'll, I'm always willing to do my best.

One thing I learned from doing the other compilations is pushing deadlines back only got us one or two more submissions, at most. After pushing back a few comps, I started only pushing back deadlines if there weren't more than a handful of submissions 48-72 hours before the due date. If I only had a couple submissions in my inbox, then I'd push the comp out only another week or two, and after that, the deadline was final and I'd release the comp as is. Unless you're sick or have something important pop up, 72 hours should be plenty of time to at least record an acoustic cover on your phone, honestly.

Having a firm deadline either gets people motivated to get their songs done or it just gives them more time to not think about it. Procrastinators like myself may want the dates pushed back so we don't have to stress about it, but at the end of the day, we're still going to do it at the last minute, haha. so pushing it back really doesn't do much other than just delay the release.

And if we keep pushing back Best of 2020, we might as well just change it to Best of 2021 since we're already more than halfway through the year, haha.

But anyway, that's just my point of view and the code I kinda cracked along the way of making 50 of these beasts.

 

Fair points. I don't plan on pushing them back much in the future unless it's really needed, but in this case, I think I got a little overzealous with the two at once thing, so I think of this more as restructuring so that it fits the normal one deadline a month. I don't want to make it overwhelming I guess. I don't want people to feel they need to choose one or the other because of time. I didn't include a lot of people making new originals into the equation when I thought of this, so I figured I'd basically just get songs people already had lying around for originals then they'd just do Best of 2020 for recording work. I'm gonna consider this comp a lesson. haha You're the master so I will heed your wisdom moving forward.

 

Two at once is definitely tricky, especially if people want to create a brand new song for an Originals comp, for sure. Writing an original song with a set deadline is really hard to do if your inspiration isn't already wired that way. I was totally planning on just submitting a song my brother and I wrote together a couple months ago so you weren't wrong in your assumption about that haha. Some people probably have bigger goals and want to create something new and specific for the comp, and I can see why they'd pick just one or the other, if there's two comps in the works.

And you don't need to listen to me at all, haha. Make these your own. I just wanted to give my insight into delaying compilations because I found that it just made people procrastinate longer, generally, including myself

 

Alright, the votes are in, and we will be putting off the originals comp. The due date for Best of 2020 is now July 14th. The date was pushed back slightly because I decided to make deadlines on Mondays moving forward so you procrastinators have the weekend to last-minute the shit outta your song(s). I'm gonna leave originals TBA for now so you can just focus on Best of 2020.

Call out any songs you want, and feel free to invite friends along for this one (I'll buy you a drink anytime you're in the Charlotte area if you get them to join Chorus). Let's make another killer comp.

Tracked all my bass and rhythm guitars today, figured out all lead guitar parts I'm gonna do too. Getting pretty excited to share my cover!

 

I basically just have vocals but like… I vape too much and my voice is not in the best shape because of it. So I’m not super confident about this one, but I’ll get it done. I’m pretty sure I’m obligated to have something each comp now that I’m running them. Haha

 

Debating submitting a track for the originals. I think my music might be too weird for these comps.

If you don't submit to the originals I will personally fly to your home and protest with a picket sign outside. I grew up in a Westboro Baptist esq. cult, so I know my shit when it comes to protests. So, might as well submit. No such thing as too weird.

I think I'm the only one doing electronica stuff, but I suppose that's fine. Looking forward to hearing more of your hardcore psych rock.

 

You can picket my apartment if you want. I actually just finished a new track this week, so I'll probably end up submitting that one. But only because you told me to.

 

My submission will be some sort of a pop song. The album I’ve been working on has no guitar, so you won’t be totally alone!

 

i randomly made a cover of "mirrorball" tonight out of nowhere, but i'll save it for another time since the song's already been picked for this comp haha.

i'll probably do a cover of a green day song because i know how much everyone loves their 2020 album.
