Um, I don't really know. I just did a blind cover for a MCS comp and I think it was the first time anyone did that for these comps.

 

Isn't the point of these also to get people to check out bands that we love collectively on this site?

Say what you want but hotelier are probably a top 10 most popular band in this community. Our forums are always popping and they won album of the year in 2014 and will easily land a top 10 record in 2016

EDIT: I was close about the MCS/Wonder Years thing. They sent each other instrumental tracks of songs from their new albums and they came up with lyrics before the official tracks were released.

The point is to have fun.

Voting is to get a majority opinion... when two people take it upon themselves to decide for EVERYONE it ruins the integrity of the "community".

I'm not a fan of this band. I think they're okay but I'm not in love with them like some people are... but hey, let's make the most of it and just have fun.

 

Yea idk what happened with the pole But at the same time this is still a great band for people to do and I hope it brings in some new fans.

 

Also, this band has 3 albums worth of material, I think like 32 songs total on Spotify, we don't usually get that many people to sign up so it's not like we'll run out of songs.

 

yet we already have two people saying they want to do the same song lol

 

Just a thought but is there no love for The Wonder Years within the comp thread?

As a casual Hotelier fan who is aware of the hype and love that is so often being cited in its defense, I think the same could be said tenfold for those boys within this community, no? And they have tons of material at this point.

I'd like to see Gibbard before this idea, but I'd very much enjoy a Wonder Years comp in the future.

 

+1 on a Wonder Years comp... I wouldn't be able to play any of their drum parts though. Mike's so good...

 

i covered "passing through a screen door" for the fall comp last year. would like a wonder years one if we were also able to do aaron west songs.

 

I was just listening to some Suburbia in the car this morning. The drum part on the second verse of Local Man is just fucking bonkers.

personally, id like to see on chorus an effort to cover bands outside of the scope of ap.net typical bands. i get that's unlikely to happen since it's largely the same fanbase, but it seemed like there was an effort to move outside of that realm with this website and i'd like these comps to reflect that, especially since i never felt a connection to a lot of the bands typically associated with that site.

gibbard and the beatles being on this poll was cool. the hotelier make sense considering they are so big here. can we stop adding bands like tbs who seemingly no one wanted?

 

I wonder where the 600+ votes came from for this comp because the fact we have 6 people and everyone else is dropping like flies is not a very reassuring prospect.

I know the poll went to hell after a while, but they had a respectable poll position before it got blown out.

 

Thanks but that song def isn't for me. I even listened to some stuff when they were still The Hotel Year and thought "oh, I like this song Southern Discomfort". Then I checked the list and apparently Discomfort Revisited is a reworked version of that song and it's also been claimed... I really just don't think this comp is for me

Sorry. This'll be the first comp I didn't participate in since I started with the MCS one.

 

I could've gone with either Death Cab or TBS, and both of them (and The Beatles) have at least twice as many albums of songs to choose from. I feel like all three are obvious/inevitable choices for the AP/Chorus crowd, so I'm not mad. Just saying it sucks that someone had all the songs they wanted already chosen.

 

Well we did The 1975 and they only had 2 albums. Participation was lower than usual but I don't think there were any song choice overlaps.

I'm chalking this up to coincidence. And it's not that big of a deal... I was indifferent about this band before. I had a few choices after some listening and they happened to be called before I got to it. It's whatevs.

I'm just going to focus on my 2016 song and if I finish maybe start on a second one.

 

You should do southern discomfort! Discomfort revisited only uses one verse from that song and it'd be really cool to have both on the comp
