I love that song so much. Shit, I think I want it now actually. Brandon, make me Off to the Races instead of Summertime Sadness. I want this trainwreck to exist for the world to hear. hahaha

That is *the* song that got me into Lana. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, and how she was changing voices all throughout the song. I was hooked.

I definitely won't be able to replicate the inhuman range and control, but I have a fun idea already.

Just wrapped up Stay Out. Mixed and all... at least for now. I'm sure with all this time I'll tweak it some. Now to start working on that NFG tune. Is Weezer going on the front page tomorrow?

This comp came out SO WELL. I truly enjoy every song on it, and thank you to everyone who came through with their songs, and those who made the effort to announce they couldn't. I think Weezer would be proud. Hopefully this comp gets as much recognition as the MCS one. Since it's not that many songs, here is my long winded opinion on each track (Warning, I use the word "appreciate" a lot):

@snaps I really like the vocals in the bridge! The way you sing it is very reminiscent of Max Bemis from Say Anything. Musically this cover is a jam and the howling leads in the choruses rock hard.

@Chase Tremaine I love how clean and minimalist this is! Your singing style and tone are very Rivers-esque; it's great. And obviously adding the Billy Joel twist is a stroke of genius.

@bobsheiskawy Kudos to you for taking on this divisive, divisive song. The cajon is really sick. This is a very accurate representation of the original, which is cool. Your vocals have really great personality that fit the song.

@bradsonemanband One of only a few songs on Raditude that I like. I actually considered this one myself. Your vocals fit this song perfectly. Also, I'm glad someone made the comparison between your voice and Ace Enders'; I couldn't put my finger on it but that's it! I really like the lead during the "I'm alone in my room" part. Just like with the MCS comp, you did a favorite of mine justice. Lastly, props to you for picking a good song order for the comp! PS: "1,2, Wee, Zer" almost made me spit out my drink.

Thanks for the compliment about my voice! It seems a lot of people aren't familiar with this song (I wasn't before this either), so I'm glad I could bring it to the attention of people!

@harveyn590 Great lo-fi sound to this; it really gives me a classic Weezer vibe. Also, your falsetto rivals Rivers'. I really enjoy this cover.

@phillyfradet I LOVE the fuzz guitar. Love it. This version has a kind of surf rock vibe that I really like. Sounds 60s-ish. Anyway, the vocals are really great on this one.

@DashboardProfessional Hey Kid. This definitely has a 50s vibe to it, with the style of singing, bass playing, rhythm, falsetto oohs, and basically everything else. Well done. I guess all that WDRC we listened to as children has sunk in! This is very enjoyable.

@TedSchmosby I'm so glad someone chose this song (and actually submitted it haha). I really like your singing in this. This whole song is giving me a strong Conor Oberst vibe. This is one of favorites on the comp!

Thank you for the compliment, and I especially appreciate the word "genuine." That is a trait I hope I put in every song I perform. Yes, DP and I are brothers and we definitely appreciate your praise. And most of all, THANK YOU FOR NOTING THE CRICKETS. That is my favorite thing about my song, and I can only hope they are referenced on my tombstone when I eventually pass away. PS: Great username.

@Things So Impossible I was diving deep into the Weezer discography in preparation for this comp and had never heard this song. I was immediately blown away by the harmonics in the original and the way the song didn't really sound like any other Weezer stuff I'd heard. When I did it myself, I wanted to make it really laid back and something one could just put on repeat and fall asleep to. Also, I'm really proud that I thought to add the crickets haha. It was a true eureka moment.

@Patterns in Traffic This cover amazes me. It's so well done! I love the solo; I had to double check to make sure that it wasn't a case of me never realizing the Europe riff is in the original song. The harmonies are perfect in this cover. Also, the Depeche Mode vibe is super strong in this. It's a beautiful thing.

@elemenohpe I am not a shredder or lead guitarist in the slightest. I can't fathom the skill it takes to do what you've done. I don't usually listen to these sort of long instrumental-based songs but I've listened to your cover a lot. The fact that you're not a drummer but were able to do what you did is crazy; it's so impressive. If the music wasn't enough, the vocals are fantastic too! Super well done man. Also, this is a perfect ender, so props to you for making it and Brad for placing it.

I'm psyched you enjoyed the harmonics in my song! They really make the whole thing I think. And I always appreciate compliments on my vocals. Thanks!

@trevorshmevor Dude, thank you so much for all the kind words. It makes me really proud to know I was able to do the original song justice by making a version that is catchy to someone who's never heard Weezer's. The fact that you could listen to my covers all day long is probably the best compliment I could receive so again, thanks! And as my brother said, your comment about our family was super funny hahaha. As he said, we're the only two who play music or sing, but we were fortunate to get a lot of support. Everything I've learned so far probably came from Blink, Dashboard, or Gaslight lol. Success someday would be nice. Thank you very much for the support, we appreciate it quite a bit. I'm sure i'll be on another comp, and hope to hear more of your stuff too for sure.

Looking forward to more comps and again, thanks Brad for organizing this stuff!

Wow, did not think My Paper Heart would get picked. Great minds think alike! Looking forward to hearing it.

  7. Oh shit I glanced right over the due date for the summer comp. Yeah, zero percent chance I'll get two songs done haha

  8. I appreciate the compliments!! I lucked out with my song choice since Rivers went onto the Song Exploder podcast to talk about "Summer Elaine." So I got a really good idea of the writing process, and it turns out he and I have a pretty similar writing process. Obviously his is more streamlined than mine, but it's super cool to be figuring out the similarities he and I share.

I kinda wanna try to do Cool for the Summer for the summer comp and make it sounds drastically different, haha. Gotta see if the other guys are on board though.

I'm actually making pretty good progress on my cover already. I'd do a second one, but after this ones done I'll have to mix and master both that, and my song "June" because they both come out within days of each other.

  18. Thanks so much! I never considered Depeche Mode, but that's a cool comparison. I can definitely hear that with the fuzzy synth and everything now that you mention it.

I thought your track was fantastic. I was really glad to see that you chose "Freak Me Out." Such a great underappreciated Weezer track. Your guitar arrangement was captivating, and you have a great voice! I will echo the others who said that the harmonics and crickets were both really nice touches. Just a great listen all around.

So I guess Jason won't be making a news post about this one?

I haven't responded to anyone's feedback because I was waiting for a news post to say thanks all at once and now I'm starting to feel like a dick. Haha.

    1. @snaps - We had a great time putting this cover today and all your comments have been incredibly encouraging. It has been almost 2 years since I've done any recording and have been super self-conscience of my voice, so all the positive remarks have helped me gain some confidence. I'm going to be working with my band putting together an EP this summer so I'll share that with you guys when we get done. Thanks again!
    2. @Chase Tremaine - Loved the choice to put the Uptown Girls mashup in this song. Totally dug it.
    3. @bobsheiskawy - I don't dislike the original song like most. Like the keys on this and the percussion. Vocals sound nice! Like the layered vocals as well.
    4. @bradsonemanband - Dude, I do see the early novemeber connection pointed out earlier. I like the direction you took the song as well. Your cover turned out really great!
    5. @harveyn590 - The falsetto sounded great. Hadn't heard this song before and I really enjoyed it!
    6. @phillyfradet - DISTORTION! This was a cool sounding punk cover! I think it might be cool to hear you push your voice a little further to raspy-ness (?) Great Job!
    7. @DashboardProfessional - Love your user name and cover dude! Vocals sound smooth! Hadn't heard this song before this either too so thanks for sharing it!
    8. @TedSchmosby - I like the almost LoFi feel of this track... Great job dude!
    9. @Things So Impossible - Loving the strumming pattern and the vocals on this mix! Thanks for doing this cover dude!
    10. @Patterns in Traffic - Really like the guitar on this track. The vibe of this really has a Depeche Mode kinda 80s vibe. Reminds me of Donny Darko, which I love! Great singing!
    11. @elemenohpe - The guitar is sick! I like the direction you took this cover. Cool cover man!

Thanks again for all your feedback dudes. Sorry I'm just getting around to posting mine.

  23. Thank you! I don't think I've ever heard anyone compare me to TEN before (let alone multiple times) so that makes me feel good! :-) Your cover was definitely my favorite and I have shown it to a bunch of my friends too, haha.
