Yo we should do a Strokes compilation.

 

Great job peeps! It's so cool that so many songs were contributed. I was only familiar with 5 of the songs, but I'll be checking out the originals since everyone made his/her songs sound so good. I mean it when I say that every single song on here is really well done. I wholeheartedly agree with what Damien said: This comp stands out so much because it shows each person's musical taste, which I find really intriguing.

My favorite has to be Paris by @thesoftskeleton. Paris is my favorite song off of I Like It When You Sleep... Thank you SO much for doing this! Your voice is perfect for this song; it's so nice to get lost in. Also, @thewmaynes , you absolutely killed it. I wasn't familiar with either of your songs, but they've been stuck in my head. Fantastic instrumentation on both; I really love the piano and harmonica. @Damien Davies , I don't know why but your cover of Aquasun is giving me a strong 90s vibe and I'm really digging it (never heard the original). @Jdaniels I'm really glad someone else covered Brian Fallon too! It's coincidental that we both covered songs that were originally Molly and the Zombies songs...

@elemenohpe Thanks! Those are some of the nicest compliments I've received, and it means a lot to me. I think it's cool that you contribute multiple songs with such varying styles; it showcases how talented you are. Your instrumentation is always on point. I really like the guitar tone in Silver Lights, and the low vocals are really enjoyable.

Thanks for wrangling this one @bradsonemanband ! I'm sure it was an endeavor to keep it on track and put it all together, so kudos to you as always. And throwing in the Dammit riff was genius. It fits super well in your cover, which is really well done and is a cool take on such a popular song. Also, congratulations on the new album!!

11. @Things So Impossible (Brian Fallon) - Your voice is so great, and this is an awesome arrangement of this song. I think you'd sound rad covering The Get Up Kids, by the way.
12. @redwing91007 (Trophy Eyes) - I really like the vibe of this track. I'm interested to hear more from you.
13. @therookielot (Panic! At The Disco) - I don't know this song, but I really like how dark this track sounds. I should check out the original version because I'm sure it's a polar opposite, haha.
14. @St. Nate (Mitski) - Your voice reminds me of the band Nightmare Of You. You should check them out if you haven't heard them. Very solid short and sweet cover.
15. @KennedyBN (The Hotelier) - Seriously beautiful track. Great job! Love this one.
16. @nohandstoholdonto (Pinegrove) - Sounds like I really need to get into Pinegrove because both of their songs covered on this compilation are great. I really love this track. Very solid.
17. @bobsheiskawy (Frank Ocean) - This is a rad arrangement of this song. Definitely made it your own.
18. bobshitland (Brand New) - I still don't know which user you actually are... haha. I like that you didn't just make a straight cover of this song.
19. @JakeRabin (NOFX) - This shit is dooooope! I never say "dope." I love this cover.
20. @Jdaniels (Ronnie Dunn) - Never heard of this Ronnie Dunn fella, but I like this song. Sounds like a nice little country jam.

Tbh I struggle a lot with my voice: tone, range, weird mannerisms, etc. So I like it when I'm told I sound like someone else.

 

haha man, i'm the exact same way. i'm never proud of my vocals. i'm always proud of myself for recording a "good enough" take. and even when someone tells me i sound like somebody else, i can never really hear what they're hearing. i've been sold i sound like Andrew McMahon a few times, and it always confuses me hahaha.

 

I empathise with this statement greatly.

 

So I have an idea...

Instead of doing a specific band compilation for February, what would you think about doing a mixtape comp of love songs in honor of Valentines Day? We can have it come out on Monday, February 13th.

What about Sufjan Stevens comp? If we did that some day (doesn't have to be this month if we do what Brad mentioned) would people contribute?

 

I'm on board for the Valentine's Day comp. although, I'd suggest having it out a little earlier than that so it isn't immediately dated

Yeah, perhaps. Especially if we take ComedownMachine's suggestion of releasing it before the 13th to keep it from being dated so soon. Although, love songs never really go out of style.

I'm definitely open to any and all suggestions too, if you'd rather do a specific band/artist in February. I pretty much just wanted to make an excuse for people to cover Dashboard Confessional and The Ataris, haha.

Gonna suggest Paramore, Tegan and Sara, Against Me!, and Carly Rae Jensen because it'd be nice to do a band that isn't comprised entirely of men for once.

 

I'd also back Julien Baker, but agreed it's limited right now. However, she's got a new album coming out later this year so perhaps after that.

 

we were so close to doing T&S before! so close that i even made an album cover for it, but then someone else won at the last minute... haha. but i'd love to do Paramore or CRJ. i'm totally down to cover some female artists. i still think Taylor Swift would be a great one too.
