@elemenohpe thank you! Thats so awesome of you to take the time and listen to and write about every song.

I've poked around a bit and I'm really digging everything.

I'm definitely going to do more of these, I'd be in for TBS!

It's really fun to work with and you can use it both as a subtle effect for texture or something more in your face. At the same time it is a tool that you rarely use, so its understandable why you would buy more important things instead of it. I bought the e-bow a couple of years ago to use for one song we recorded with my old band, but I could never manage to use it when we played the song live, so much real "use" of it I haven't had. But again - it's really fun. :)

Bloody hell, some awesome covers on this one! This is the first ever chorus.fm compilation I've ever submitted a song for, so it feels great to have my dumb recordings sitting alongside so many super talented people's submissions. I'll be listening through all of them over the next day or so but from what I've heard so far you've all done great! :)

also thanks @elemenohpe for the kind words in your post!!

Now I have listened to the whole compilation, and I must say that I am totally amazed by how many great contributions there were. Fantastic job everyone! :-)

@nohandstoholdonto I LOVED your take on Old Friends by Pinegrove! The production, arrangement, vocals was such a great fit for the song.

Thank you so much! I've honestly struggled lately to find my like "new voice" as a songwriter. I used to write a ton of songs and participate in these comps more frequently but since transitioning I've been kinda relearning how to use my voice and its def caused some growing pains. I feel like this cover was the first time I really managed to make music that suited my current voice and it's a really awesome feeling. I feel inspired and really wanna start writing my own songs in a style similar to this cover and see what comes of it. Idk I realize I'm kinda rambling but it's just so nice to hear some positive feedback given all that lol.

The cover sounded like a natural fit for you, so I hope you continue in your pursuit writing more songs in this style. I would gladly listen! :)

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Standards was one of my favorite records of 2016. I was surprised it didn't even make some lists. I need to dig into this comp, but I've been so busy with school and work to get to it and develop good feedback.

I hope you still do this because New Friends is my favorite Pinegrove track.

  15. I'll keep these pretty short and sweet since there are so many, but you all did awesome!

    1. @Ugly Mug (Into It. Over It.) - Out of the 27 songs on this compilation, I've only ever heard the originals of 6 of them, including this one, haha. You pull off Evan Weiss perfectly!

    2. @Jdaniels (Ariana Grande) - This is another one of the few songs on here that I've heard before. It's a great song and I really like your arrangement of it.

    3. @Damien Davies (Basement) - I've heard the name Basement so many times. I really dig the haunting production you put on this.

    4. @wearethedead (Crywank) - I don't think I've ever heard of Crywank before, but I liked your cover so I'll have to check out the original!

    5. @elemenohpe (In Her Own Words) - I always love your covers. You have different styles so I'm always excited to hear where you're going to take a song. This does not disappoint. I'll have to check out the original for this one too.

    6. @thewmaynes (Modern Baseball) - I dig this cover! You have a cool style. I hope you do some more compilations with us!

    7. bradsonemanband (The Chainsmokers) - I picked this song super last minute. Originally, I was going to try covering a Two Tongues song, but the production on it is so bad that it was way too difficult trying to pick out what they were playing, so I ditched it. So I chose this Chainsmokers song that was huge in the pop music world. I'm not stoked on my vocals for it because I was just getting over a sore throat thing and blah blah blah. I added the riff to "Dammit" on the line that mentions Blink-182 as a little nod. I actually built the rest of the song around that one part, haha.

    8. @aoftbsten (Taking Back Sunday) - You totally got the Adam vocals down, but you add your own to it too and it sounds great! Awesome cover.

    9. @ricklightning (Pinegrove) - With how many people on this site talking about Pinegrove, I don't know why I haven't listened to them yet! I really like the sound of this.

    10. @thesoftskeleton (The 1975) - Well you nailed this! Your covers are so good every time.

    PART 2 COMING SOON...

@elemenohpe @bradsonemanband Thanks! In past years, I'm not so sure imitating Adam's vocal style would be considered a complement around these parts haha, but I personally love his delivery on this song (and the album as a whole) and really tried to stay true to it as much as I could.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the comp yet, but I'm sure everyone killed it. I'll share my thoughts once I do.

I bet you Evan Weiss has listened to one or two of my covers and thinks I'm trying to abscond with his sick vocal stylings.

If I ever release that EP I'm always talking about I hope I can start a beef with him because of it.

  20. That's ok, because he borrowed his style from Mike Kinsella more or less anyway, haha. jk jk jk. Kind of.

I won't do targeted reviews for every track, I'll just say that all the songs were done so well, everyone added their own flavour and because of the vast choices we had because 2016 was a great year for music nobody was pigeonholed into doing a specific style or a specific bands music so it really let not only everyone's music taste but also music ability to be put on show. Great job everyone.

Thanks Brad for putting this one together!
    Bring on the February compilation!
