Ugh I just noticed that mine has a weird glitch that happened in mixdown... is there any way I could send you an updated one to replace it? :(

Edit: never mind lol, I guess it's unfixable :\

Shiiiiii- Damnit. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I can send it when I get home. It's been done forever. I thought it made it to you, but maybe I was a bit confusing when I originally asked you if you had received it.

If you can't tack it onto the comp, that's fine too. It's not as good as the IIOI cover.

  9. Sorry man! Of course I will put it on the comp though when you can send it over again. I swear I had received it, but looking through all the emails now, I just see the IIOI you sent first. Sorry again!

I'm going to split these notes into quarters so I don't write a fucking novel. Also @bradsonemanband, you forgot to add 'metal' to the tags :eh:

@Ugly Mug - Open Casket (IIOI) - Killer job. Everything about this is great! The playing, the mix, the way it builds and builds. I'll definitely be revisiting Standards now.

@Jdaniels - Side To Side (Ariana Grande) - Never heard the original. Nice stripped down strumm-y instrumentation. I like it has an upbeat feel though (which I assume the original has)... the way you sing it sounds bitter, kind of angsty. Good job!

@Damien Davies - Aquasun (Basement) - Is that a chorus effect on the guitar or did you record them in an echo-y room? Either way it sounds really good on it. Your vocals sounds really sincere. Really enjoyed this.

@wearethedead - Love (Crywank) - What a band name... haha. Haven't heard them before. The song was pretty quirky lyrically. I loved all the saturated-crying guitar / feedback stuff. Your accent sounds really great too like when you say it's fuckin' stupid. Nice outro too... reminded me of Karma Police.

elemenohpe - Silver Lights (In Her Own Words) - Rushed this arrangement together after playing around with the song for maybe 3-4 plays. Recorded it all in about 2 hours. One of my favorite songs of the year from my favorite album... the record is very pop-punk but this is a much more laid back version. I wanted to do a more faithful version with drums and more guitars but, I spent waaay too much time on Redbone. Hope you all like it and maybe check out IHOW's new album 'Unfamiliar'. Feedback is very much appreciated.

@thewmaynes - Holy Ghost/Wedding Singer (Modern Baseball) - Great job on these! Your vocals sound great and I like the lo-fi synth when the song picks up and when the electro-vocals/drums come in. If I didn't know better, I would've believed this was a MoBa demo. Really fun cover... keep 'em coming!

@bradsonemanband - Closer (The Chainsmokers) - I'm not familiar with this tune either. Love when the distortion comes in. I was really expecting you to keep it low-key and then BOOM! This has a strong Piebald feel to it (and I fucking love it). Oh, and I've heard people say that lyrics about the b182 song so now that makes sense to me. Going to have to check out the original. Great job as always Brad. Thanks for all your work putting these together!

    Wave #2...

@aoftbsten - Holy Water (Taking Back Sunday) - I really loved this TBS record the week it was out and then it just fell off my radar and I forgot all about it. This cover took me back and I'm going to re-listen to it too. Your vocals are VERY much like Adam's. You did a great job replicating his style.

@ricklightning - Aphasia (Pinegrove) - Great production. Sounds really brooding yet still catchy. This whole track just sounds amazing... my favorite part about it is when it has this wall of dissonant sound. So cool... reminds me of the first time I heard Radiohead's "The National Anthem". Great job!

@thesoftskeleton - Paris (The 1975) - The percussion on this sounds really great. So much like the original. Vocals sound wonderful, music is spot on... you really nailed it. This was one of my least favorite songs from their new record but I gained a new appreciation for it recently when I saw them play it live... it was a great mood-changer for their set. Glad I got a better perspective before I heard your version. Keep it up!

@Things So Impossible - Smoke (Brian Fallon) - Fantastic cover. I prefer your voice to Brian's and you nailed the arrangement as well. The second verse "bleeding to death.." sounded so earnest. The vocal harmonies are wonderful. Never change, mmkay?

@redwing91007 - Chlorine (Trophy Eyes) - I was really pumped for this album after hearing this single. The rest of the album didn't really live up to my internal hype. You did a great job on this song giving it a more laid back feel. Look forward to that Architects cover ;-p

@therookielot - The Impossible Year (P!ATD) - I loved the buzzy bass line pushing the song along and your lounge style vocals. Fun take on the song... the lyrical/musical juxtaposition is like a big fuck you to the idea of a ballad. Oh and the ending of yours ALSO sounded like Karma Police... haha. that's the 3rd time I've mentioned Radiohead so far.

@St. Nate - A Burning Hill (Mitski) - Cute short tune. Real mellow and peaceful... good job. I'd never heard the original but I'll def check it out now.

    ...and wave #3...

@KennedyBN - Soft Animal (The Hotelier) - Wow, your vocals sound a lot like them! This sounds really nice... it's got a smooth mix and it matches the laid back arrangement. Got goosebumps during the "make me believe that there's a god sometimes" part. Great job!

@nohandstoholdonto - Old Friends (Pinegrove) - I like how the layers organically grow and grow until you've got a full band going. Your voice really fits this style well. Everything feels really natural about this cover and it fits the song... real and honest. Great job!

@bobsheiskawy - Solo (Frank Ocean) - Don't know if I heard this song last year or not (I listened to one of his releases once and never again... just wasn't for me). The rhythm of the vocals sounds real cool with the finger picked guitar. Sounds like you had a lot of fun getting all those lines out. Definitely not the kind of arrangement I was expecting for a Frank Ocean song but it fits really well. Good job on this... looks like you and I are the only ones to pick songs for hip-hop/r&b-ish stuff.

bob shitland - I Am A Nightmare (Brand New) - Didn't see this in the chosen song list yesterday, I almost rushed out a version of it just so there'd be BN on the comp. Glad I didn't. I like how the reverb makes any of the off-strums makes it sound like a "cd-skip" effect. Kind of a weird take on the song... quirky in it's on right. Keep on contributing.

@JakeRabin - Six Years On Dope (NOFX) - This is awesome man! It's like a hardcore version of the tune with some tasty leads. The clean vocals sound great for the tune (just like NOFX would do it). Production sounds great as well. I loved this one... so good.

@Jdaniels - Ain't No Trucks In Texas (Ronnie Dunn) - Not much of a country fan so I never heard this song... I assume this is half of the immortal Brooks & Dunn. Your country vocals are good... got just enough drawl and twang in them. Sounds like a good campfire song. Nice job picking a song that's a 180 genre-wise from your other submission!

@wearethedead - Glass Eyes (Radiohead) - Great mix. Very ominous with the droning feedback (lots of that on this comp!) and the sparse guitar. I know I've heard the original but I don't really remember it... your arrangement has me curious to revisit AMSP. Good job on this... got a real ethereal feel at the end... very post-rock.

    ...aaand finally wave #4...

@Jdaniels - Red Lights (Brian Fallon) - Wow, didn't realize you had a third cover. Seems like a more straightforward cover. Your voice sounds good doing Fallon. Overall it sounds really good... did you do it in one take or record the guitar and vocals separately?

elemenohpe - Redbone (Childish Gambino) - Went metal af with this cover. Pulled out the 8-string and recorded a skeleton for the song based on the chords of the original. Then I went and added the drums with EZ Drummer. I planed on re-recording the skeleton guitar but it sounded good after I edited all the excess string noise. From there I layered lead, bass, vocals, keys, samples. I just kept and kept adding until next thing I knew I had a week to do my other song. Added all the Trump quotes to add more emphasis to the final lyrics in the song (How'd it get so scandalous / Stay woke). I think it sounds great and I'm really proud of it... hope you all enjoy it! Feedback is very much appreciated.

@ricklightning - Last You Heard of Me (Joyce Manor) - The production on this one sounds like a Joyce Manor song. Real great job recreating their sound. Arrangement sounds good and vocals fit the lyrics well. I'd love to hear you re-work one of their tunes like you did that Pinegrove song. Keep it up!

@Damien Davies - Burn The Witch (Radiohead) - Don't remember this song either... a lot of later Radiohead runs together for me. Those droning chords scream Radiohead to me and your vocals float around notes in a way that's very reminiscent of Thom. Great job really putting their unmistakable traits into your arrangement.

@redwing91007 - Honey (Moose Blood) - Music sounds great. Mix is nice and even and your vocals fit this band's style. Are you playing a real bass, emulating it with a guitar or is it all programmed? It sounds natural and has a good punchy tone. That bridge / outro part is dope. The synth reminded me of Action Action, particularly the song Photograph. Loved it. Good job.

@thewmaynes - Tachychardia (Conor Oberst) - Your vocals are very Oberst-ish on this. Great job with the harmonica and organ. All these little things really give this cover an authentic feel that Conor should be proud of. Just like that Modern Baseball cover... I could easily be fooled into believing this is a demo of the original artist. Wonderful job all around. Your performance makes for a great closer.

...it was a fun listen everybody. Amazed by the turnout. Can't wait to do it again for 2017!

Really appreciate the comments on both the songs. This is my first time contributing and actually putting anything I've recorded by myself out there. I need to work on my setup a little, I didn't even have a microphone for this month and recorded vocals using the mic on a pair of Apple Earbuds. I enjoyed your track a lot by the way, not a song I had heard before so I'll go check it out!

Anyways, to answer your question, I'm playing the bass. I'm a bass player before anything. Used a Musicman SUB direct into my interface with very little effects. I absolutely love the tone of that bass anyways. The only parts that were programmed were the drums and the synth part.

Thanks... if you like fast-paced pop-punk you'll dig it.

THAT'S why your tone sounded so good. Haha. I'm also playing actual bass on my recordings except I'm using Amplitube so the low end doesn't really hit like I want.

    NO! Re-listening now.

EDIT: How the fuck did I miss that?! Nice touch dude!

Nice! I may take you up on that! For my Childish Gambino cover I played it on an 8-string guitar but I only have a 4 string bass. So tuned down to B (7-string register... fit the actual key of the song) so some of the lowest notes I had to do an octave higher... trying to put a bass down an octave with a plugin sounded terrible.
