I loved it right away. I think it's a fairly straightforward story to follow on its own.

Its relationship to the rest of the album is something else entirely though.

 

To be honest, I wasn’t crazy on this when it was released as a single, however when you consider it as part of this run through to the grocery, it is incredible. Shine a whole new light on it

 

The chord progression still really reminds me of Aphasia by Pinegrove, but that's okay. It's a great chord progression.

Just like SF the sequencing is so strong on this record. Like you can really tell that they poured over every details and I love that

2:30 on The Alien

 

Including a song like The Alien after the one-two hit of energy that is The Moth and Lead was a smart decision. It's both a comedown and the start of the buildup to The Grocery.

still love the simple little piano interlude. I need to learn how to play it.

 

Gonna try to make it from my car, upstairs, to my record player and play it all without skipping a single beat or the music stopping.

 

some of these extra flourishes make me wish i was a fly on the wall when they were writing this

Yep. One of the best moments in the song/on the album. Reminds me of Carrie and Lowell.

So I had an idea for next time, I know we all struggled to pick a time for everyone to get in and live listen, so what if we did like a weekly album club, where we pick an album, listen to it when we can during the week, and come together a certain day to discuss?

 

I already know that I don’t already know

 

I appreciate the outro of The Alien much more knowing how it leads into The Sunshine.

 

And perhaps go thru it song by song?

The Sunshine is sort of weird for me because I don't know that I'd consider it a highlight outside of the context of the album sequencing, but between The Alien and The Grocery it is pure bliss.

 

the lead into the sunshine picking up with the same chord progression might be my favorite moment on the album. maybe
