Great lists! I see several albums I need to check out. I always look forward to these recs on the site. Thank you! I'm very surprised not to see Medium Build's "Country" or the EP "Marietta." Those were my two favorite releases this year, alongside Wilderado's "Taker" and Bleachers' self-titled album (I didn’t see these mentioned either). I also loved Oso Oso's "Life Till Bones", Zach Bryan's "The Great American Bar Scene, MJ Lenderman’s “Manning Fireworks and Michigan Rattlers’s “Waving from a Sea”.
I'm pretty sure there would be another faction of users mad at us if we did include Alkaline Trio, lol. Can't win 'em all.
Everything I love about Chorus is summed up in the fact that you can have Kelsey Ballerini at 1 and Touché Amoré at 2. Great list and lovely write ups. Thoughts afterwards: I need to revisit Maggie Rogers. Loved Surrender and had it high in 2023, but Don’t Forget Me probably arrived too soon after and didn’t hit me immediately so I’ve kind of let it pass me by. Still not listened to The Tortured Poets Department and can’t tell if I’m fine with that or not, ha.
The Maggie album was a letdown for me at first, but it really grew on me the more I listened, especially once I picked it up on vinyl. It's got a very classic feel to it that really works well in that format. Tortured Poets is worth a listen, and arguably better suited to this season than to the one when it came out. Especially disc 2.
wow. since I've grown older, my best of lists get later and later every year, think I finalized my 2023 one in October 2024.
Middle Kids, Wallows, Green Day, The Dangerous Summer, and Real Friends probably were my favorites in 2024. Dua Lipa had some bangers on the new album, but I didn’t love it as a whole. Listened to a ton of Samia’s latest album in 2024, though I think it released the year before. Looking forward to new LS Dunes, Coheed, Silverstein, and Samia this year
Love the diversity, as well as the fact that I'm absolutely not familiar with merely just one title here - and that title is number one on the whole list!
I disliked the hippo campus album when it came out but have really come around on it. Subtlety catchy.
My top 3: 1. Bilmuri - American Motorsports (Johnny Franck is a genius, this album is just awesome) 2. Early November - Self Titled 3. Four Year Strong Honorable Mention: Alkaline Trio
The Story So Far - I Want To Disappear Foxing - Foxing Super American - Gangster of Love Bring Me The Horizon - POST HUMAN: NeX GEn nothing, nowhere. - Hell or Highwater Origami Angel - Feeling Not Found Real Friends - Blue Hour Gleemer - End of the Nail nothing, nowhere. - Cult Classic Knocked Loose - You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To Balance and Composure - With You In Spirit Tiny Moving Parts - Deep In The Blue nothing, nowhere. - Miserymaker Same Side - Oh No Mat Kerekes - To Dream of Something Wicked
Didn't listen to it in 2024, but since the new year I haven't been able to stop listening to Carly Cosgrove's 'The Cleanest of Houses are Empty'. Great album and 'The Impact of This Exit' is such an amazing song.
