Death Touches Us, From the Moment we Begin to Love Supporter

I hope you're not into buying their vinyl! My buddy is a big Griselda fan and has been buying those Daupe! / de rap winkel drops for the last few years.

I couldn't put myself through the stress of those drops haha.

Surprised to see Bartees Strange on here but love it. That was one of my last shows I saw this year, and it was a pretty small turnout, which normally means you have a lot of crowd chatter bleeding through, but he held a captive audience the whole time and put on a fantastic, honest, powerful show.

Some stuff on hear I need to check out, but one of the first time in years, I know and agree with a lot of the records and places.

  7. I’ve participated in a couple DRW drops, for the first Mavi LP and Redveil’s latest. Neither were that bad considering the international shipping, but WOW they were both so stressful as hell lol. Can only imagine Griselda related stuff is like 10x worse on both fronts

Great contribution from the website, some great albums listed and some new ones I always look forward to checking out.
Love seeing other mention some phenomenal albums that didn’t make the list too(annd always look forward to Drew’s list as I’ve found some amazing crazier/heavier stuff often)…and there does seem to be this weird, almost dismissal, of certain bands, but it is what it is. Here’s 9 of mine, that warrant some listens, many that didn’t make the list(in no particular order):
Norma Jean - Deathrattle Sing for Me
    PUP - The unraveling..
    UØ - Voyeurist
Fleshwater - We are not here to be loved
Soulblind - Feel it all Around
Vein.Fm - This world is going to Ruin You
The Devil Wears Prada - Color Decay
    Holy Fawn - Dimensional Bleed
    Chat Pile - God’s Country

Love the list! Lots of overlap with mine. Here's my personal list:

    30. The Linda Lindas - Growing Up [super fun all-girl punk band writing catchy pop-punk & power-pop tunes / my 5 yo's first vinyl]

    29. Coheed & Cambria - Vaxis II: A Window of the Waking Mind [it's coheed. you get a reliably mostly solid prog rock concept album. someday i need to get a coheed tat.]

    28. Bartees Strange - Farm to Table [wildly eclectic blend of indie rock & hip-hop]

    27. Plains (Jess Williamson & Waxahatchee's Katie Crutchfield) - I Walked With You a Ways [wistful all-female country duo / americana / folk]

    26. Love? Said the Commander - Bones (Live from the Wayne County Court House) [EP] [recorded live in a court house, the EP captures 4 stellar songs by the indie-folk duo, including a radiant instrumental track]

    25. The 1975 - Being Funny in a Foreign Language [blissful art pop brimming with millennial neuroses, romance, and chaos]

    24. Silversun Pickups - Physical Thrills [mostly quality alt-rock & shoegaze; imo, SP's best record since their first two]

    23. Pusha T - It's Almost Dry [engrossing rap; Pusha commands the listener's attention]

    22. Rosie Thomas - Lullabies for Parents, Vol. 1 [EP] [enchanting and dreamy indie folk for parents]

    21. Mikey Erg - Love at Leeds [exhilarating, crunchy grunge-pop & power-pop produced by the legend Steve Albini]

    20. Sarah Shook & The Disarmers - Nightroamer [unapologetic and biting country-punk]

    19. L.S. Dunes - Past Lives [colossal post-hardcore and alt-rock from a staggering supergroup comprised of Circa Survive's Anthony Green and members of MCR, Coheed, and Thursday; it's really as good as the premise sounds]

    18. Goo Goo Dolls - Chaos in Bloom [comforting, solid alt-rock & pop-rock; the Goo's strongest album of their last few]

    17. Björk - Fossora [experimental / electronic / otherwordly / "biological techno" in Björk's words / concept album about motherhood and... mushrooms?]

    16. Ken Yates - Cerulean [transcendent americana & folk; Cerulean is the soundtrack for coping with the collapse of our society and ecosystem]

    15. Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers [personal and cinematic art rap; one of many stand-out moments is the vulnerable story of his relationship with his trans uncle and Kendrick's own path to understanding and acceptance (sincerely if a bit inelegantly) on "Auntie Diaries"]

    14. Placebo - Never Let Me Go [dark, nihilistic, and inspired alt-rock]

    13. Miranda Lambert - Palomino [top-tier songwriting from a modern-day country legend on her ninth(!) album]

    12. James and the Shame (aka Rhett McLaughlin of Good Mythical Morning fame) - Human Overboard [Wrapped in americana & throwback country, it's a deeply personal record detailing Rhett's arc of self-discovery and understanding during his faith deconstruction & Christian deconversion; highly recommend the stand-out, emotional tracks dedicated to his wife ("Where We're Going") and kids ("Creek and Back")]

    11. Harry Styles - Harry's House [bright and breezy indie rock & indie pop]

    10. Mandy Moore - In Real Life [earnest and endearing indie pop & indie folk]

    9. Taylor Swift - Midnights [alluring dream pop & synth-pop with songwriting enhanced by its atmosphere and restraint]

    8. Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time [From the propulsive opener "Surrender My Heart" to a ballad that Nashville songwriters only wish they had written ("Go Find Yourself or Whatever"), The Loneliest Time continues Carly's run of top-tier pop records with a vibrant, fun, glittery, and personal album.]

    7. Danger Mouse & Black Thought - Cheat Codes [adventurous, masterfully-crafted hip-hop; come for the classic grainy Danger Mouse beats, stay for the terrific posthumous DOOM verse]

    6. Dashboard Confessional - All The Truth That I Can Tell [charming dad emo & indie folk with some of the most stellar songwriting of Chris's career; every parent should listen to "Me and Mine" and grab a few tissues]

    5. Maren Morris - Humble Quest [warm, breezy, and graceful folk-pop & country-pop]

    4. Jensen McRae - Are You Happy Now? [Emotional and achingly vulnerable storytelling wrapped in indie folk, alt-pop, and alternative melancholia. Strongly recommended for fans of Phoebe Bridgers -- check out "My Ego Dies at the End".]

    3. The Beths - Expert in a Dying Field [Sheer sonic joy -- a perfect album. New Zealand's The Beths shine with their dynamic, gratifying guitar-pop and power-pop paired with the emotive vocals of singer and primary songwriter Liz Stokes. My favorite guitar-driven rock album in *years*. It just hits different.]

    2. Beyoncé - RENAISSANCE [Vibrant, eclectic, complex, and imaginative -- Beyoncé deftly traverses the genres of dance, house, pop, R&B, and disco to commemorate decades of club music and honor the impact of Black queer culture and its pioneers. "Cozy" is the north star on the record, a celebration of self-love and resilience for the Black and trans communities. The album's production is maximalist and full of crazy, expertly-executed transitions; the Afrobeats-driven "Heated" is one example that stuns me each listen. RENAISSANCE is a masterpiece.]

    1. MUNA - MUNA [The electro-pop trio of Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson (they/them), and Josette Maskin -- all LGBTQ-identifying -- have crafted a captivating third album. It's liberating and eclectic with unabashed celebrations of queerness ("Silk Chiffon (ft. Phoebe Bridgers)", "What I Want"); exuberant pop bangers ("Home By Now", "Anything But Me"); lush synth-pop ("Runner's High", "Loose Garment"); throwback 80's pop on "Solid"; and even a touch of The Chicks-style country balladry on "Kind of Girl". Brimming with love, joy, lust, euphoria, and confidence, MUNA is my AOTY 2022.]

Music is still my favorite outlet, and I'm excited at this age to still be discovering artists that give me new highs (MUNA, The Beths) and being blown away in ways I didn't expect at all from established artists (Beyoncé).
