Shout out to the like ~5 of us around these parts rallying behind Arlo Parks! Staggeringly good record man. Been hearing her a lot in the wild recently and it’s making me real happy
Good list. I thought thrice would be higher. Seemed like every one here was obsessed with it besides me haha
I like this list. glad to see most of my favorites represented here. On another note, I feel like I'm the only one who can't get into Olivia Rodrigo - Sour (with the exception of good 4 u).
A fair few overlapping albums with my list, not that I deserve or expect any particular credibility: 1: Every Time I Die "Radical" 2: Shad "Tao" 3: '68 "Give One Take One" 4: Spiritbox "Eternal Blue" 5. Thrice "Horizons/East" 6. Foxing "Draw Down the Moon" 7: Manchester Orchestra "The Million Masks of God" 8: Talk Show Host "Mid-Century Modern" 9: Teenage Wrist "Earth Is A Back Hole" 10: Trophy Scars "Astral Pariah" I actually keep forgetting Astral Pariah came out this year because I've been trying not to listen to it too much before the vinyl arrives this spring. ...and maybe I should have just posted this in the member thread instead. But here we are.
She was far and away my favorite discovery this year. Most records that come out in January are lost to me by the end of the year, but this one continued to stay with me through the seasons. I also feel like she's steadily been gaining some traction in the states recently, so I'm thrilled for her.
Would be a fun thing to see who’s made the most consecutive lists or most appearances for an overall sort of ranking…feel like you did something like this in the past but maybe not?
I've listened to it twice and I like it. Definitely reminds me of Chasing Safety and Define era Underoath
Only beef I have is with Red (TV) taking up a spot that could have gone to a new album that came out this year but hey, I get it. Still need to listen to a few, including ETID
That ‘68 album is amazing. I’ve been a fan since the beginning but Give One Take One is my favorite. They did something special with this one!
Completely agree! I've got time for everything Scogin does, and enjoyed their previous releases. But this one was so much more impactful, and has so much swagger. I've sadly never seen them live (though had seen The Chariot), but given their reputation, GOTO seems to display more of their live energy.
I had no idea this released! I am so excited right now. Managed to be a fan since the first album too, need to see them headline a show again, what a trip. They don't seem to open for a lot of other bands I care about.
Scogin is one of my top artists that I will go after everything for (although I don’t love the first Norma Jean record like some. Norma Jean is better with Corey and Scogin is a million times better in the Chariot). I also haven’t seen them live yet. (I have seen The Chariot. Seeing them live is when it “clicked.”) I almost did back when the second record came out and it didn’t happen. Fingers crossed domed day, post Covid there will be a chance.
Glad you discovered this one. Best of the three in my opinion. As I mentioned I’ve never seen them either. Almost. But yeah, they open for bands lately that I’m not into so just don’t feel like it’s worth it…but maybe that’s wrong!
Anyone like the new Field Music? Been listening to them a bunch this year, think a lot here would like them.
chorus.fm is always the "Best of" list that I count on for introducing me to new artists or giving me the push to revisit albums that didn't resonate with me after a few listens. This is a stellar list that aligns quite a lot with my own favourites for the year, but I still have a lot of catching up to do. If anyone is like me and still craves that desire to discover new music through the medium of music videos as I did when I was a kid, then you might like this YouTube playlist I put together with all the official music videos from the artists featured in this list. (Hayley Williams and Origami Angel didn't have any official music videos so are sadly not present)
