Skyrim comes with a big serving of nostalgia, but it's also just still fun. i started a new file on Switch recently for when i'm craving fantasy sandbox. just hundreds of hours on this thing. it ages worse with every passing month it feels like, but i still enjoy it regardless. maybe the most i've been wowed by a game.

Xenoblade was a tough vote because i have a very similar level of "like, but not love" for both it and FFX. overall Xenoblade gets the win for being much more fun to explore. i upgraded to a N3DSXL for that port and wasn't disappointed.

i've played both Crash and Kingdom Hearts II and feel basically nothing for either of them rn haha

i've played like two hours of Persona 5 and zero of Half-Life and can say with full confidence P5 is way more my shit

Pokemon gen two is probably the best RPG of that era imo. easy pick.

never messed with Spiderman or Doom outside of 30 mins on Doom via PSNow. neither are in my wheelhouse.

Wind Waker is a stone cold classic that i want to play RIGHT NOW

Hollow Knight might be my favorite game. it's perfect to me.

Skyrim

Final Fantasy X - It took me a long time to actually come around on FF X, I remember being a kid and being pissed they were turning it into a more 'movie-like' game and never got into it. Flashback to 2016 and I just got a PS4 and the FFX remaster was the first game I bought/completed. It's a lot more normal to have a game with cutscenes now so I was much more open to it. Aside from Tidus being the worst/cringiest main protaginist in the game (Squall is a close second) I love a lot of the other characters, especially Auron. It's also the last main series FF to have a turn-based system. Great game, Probably 5 or 6 on my top FF games.

Crash Bandicoot - Played Crash as a kid a lot and loved it, I played a good amount of KHII and found myself getting really bored of the combat and not really loving the story.

Persona 5 - someday i'll actually finish this game but what I played was great.

Hollow Knight - fuck what a hard decision but having just played Trials of Mana for SNES and the remake, it is such a better game than SoM and god damn I fucking love Hollow Knight. Everyone should play Hollow Knight.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2) - Still one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time. Playing through this when it first came out, it really felt like you were part of a phenomenon, like the entire gaming world was all playing the same game at the same time. It was exciting.

Final Fantasy X (63) - Goddammit. Can’t pick XC over this all-time classic though.

Kingdom Hearts II (31) - I’d take KH2 over any Crash game, because it’s one of my favorite games of all time, but especially over Crash 1.

Persona 5 (95) - Never played Persona 5 but I respect the hell out of it and what it accomplishes. Half-Life 2 I’ve tried to start like three or four times in my life and never gotten more than like 2 hours in lol

Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal (15) - The real Pokémon gen that should be advancing.

Marvel's Spider-Man (2018) (50) - One of the best superhero experiences of all time.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (18) - GODDAMMIT I hated voting against Jedi Outcast but this is maybe the best Zelda game, so.

Secret of Mana (82) - This was tough but SoM is a really important game for the action RPG sub genre.

Sad to say I haven't played most of the games this round. But I love KH2 and Pokemon. I'd pick Spider-Man on the virtue of it being Spider-Man, but i haven't played it so it wouldn't be fair.

Sad that Night in the Woods wont make it past round 1. Love that game to death despite the horribleness that surrounds it now. In general, Im passionate about more games in this round then any other so far.

 

Also, anyone play Wind Waker recently? There was a time when I called it my second fav zelda game but last time I played it I struggled to get through. There is so much great atmosphere but there is also a lot of repetition and dull combat. It genuinely pains me to say this, but I dont think it holds up.

- One of the hardest choices I’ve made so far was between Wind Waker & Jedi Knight. Still not sure I made the right choice but Jedi Knight gets the edge for now.
