Bloodborne was number one seed by multiple votes at first and then like 7 or 8 more people submitted lists. there were 20 lists total including mine.
Seeing comments about Goldeneye is really funny when that game literally helped to launch FPS on consoles. Everyone played Goldeneye at the time and it was a lot of fun to play. It makes perfectly good sense that people would include it in their list of favorite video games. Same with COD. Both were massively successful. Both were fun to play. The question wasn't: what's the best JRPG right now. The question was: what's your favorite video game. Since that bothers people, apparently, I'm not going to participate. Our interests don't align and people ITT like to shit on interests that don't reflect their own. That's why I never post in the video game thread. @Shrek can remove my votes if he likes.
Wasn't aware we weren't allowed to discuss the list. Inclusion of old games is always going to prompt discussion, because the fact is some of them hold up, some of them don't. Goldeneye does not hold up well at all. No one is saying Goldeneye wasn't an important/influential game.
It's not my fave game ever(it's still great tho) but I will vote for it until the end if it means COD doesn't win
To be fair, it’s favorite games, not games that hold up the best lol. I imagine the people that voted for it did so because of nostalgia.
If I bring up the N64 to almost anyone my age, Goldeneye is usually the first game they bring up. That or like Mario Kart.
I do believe that games that don’t hold up in the present day still deserve recognition based on the impact they had at the time. Like I would never put the original Super Mario Bros. on my list, nor would I put the original Zelda or Metroid, but those games do deserve recognition of some kind for what they meant for the industry and their respective genres. That said, any outlet that ranks them over later games in each franchise is just doing it for gamer cred.
I always think its ridiculous when the older games are included over the later entries, in cases where the later games are clearly the superior game , because its like they're saying to developers that no matter how good the game that they create is, it will never be better than the older game because time is obviously a factor that the developer can't control.
Many people listing their favorite games are basing it on nostalgia and their personal experience with it, as am I. It's the favorite game bracket, not the best-made game bracket.
that’s why I voted for Pong 2 - total nostalgia but also totally better than Pong 1 because the ball is an octagon instead of a square
also Quake and Doom outdate Goldeneye by years but to my knowledge they didn’t have an option for a 4 player ‘proximity mines only’ game
i am just gonna be real for a minute, while not targeting anyone (i promise): if this gets crazy contentious as video game discussions so often do around here, im gonna bail on it. this should be fun. if we as a group of adults cannot have fun talking about video games, im not gonna devote a bunch of my free time to tracking it. your definition of a joke may be someone else's idea of trolling. some people are more sensitive than others. let's not make this video game thread part two.
Yeah, don't shit on other people's choices and state you dislike/hate a game someone else loves. Should be the cardinal-rule
