I submitted my top three (VI, XII, VII). Was wondering how many would make the list though. Figured VI, VII, IX, and X were probably locks, with IV, VIII, and XII having a chance of making it to the bracket as well.

 

I better not be the only one who put Devil May Cry 3 on my list

 

Not really. Between them and Zelda 2, yes.

what do yall think about separating 2d and 3d mario games

 

Pls don’t make me choose between Mario Land 2 and Mario World

 

I think that any platforming games with a title format of "Super Mario _____" should be considered part of the mainline Mario series. And that includes the New Super Mario Bros. games.

If we separate 2D and 3D, then I think the list will have too many Mario games on it and will push out other games that deserve a spot on the bracket. On my list I put Super Mario 64, Super Mario World, and another one that I can't remember, I think maybe Odyssey, and that's it.

Besides, everyone has different Mario games they love. Odds are a ton of Mario games will make the cut anyway. But limiting it to 3 for the series as a whole will make it more likely that only the best of the best make it on.

 

Counterpoint: they’re all better than whatever else people are going to be putting on their cursed lists ;D

 

i will say that most mainline Mario games have been submitted with three surprising omissions

Subbing! I’m actually not big into video games anymore until I made this list and realized how much I miss playing my favorites games from the 90s/early 00s. I’m rooting for anything related to the Monkey Island series!

 

I'm not actually sure if Sunshine is the best 3D Mario. I used to think so and it is my favourite because of its vibe, but it definitely has more design issues than any other 3D Mario game. That being said it is one of three Mario games (and two 3D Mario games) that I put on my list.

 

I'm scared to revisit Sunshine when it hits Switch through fear of not loving it as much as I did when I was 10 lol

 

Are we supposed to pick between Pokémon red and blue? If so I choose yellow.

 

No. Yellow is maybe an edge case, but I think it'll still count as the same as Red/Blue, based on earlier clarifications.

 

I replayed it a few years ago and I still love it but there's more frustrating stuff in there than in the 3D Mario games released after it. The atmosphere though is still amazing.

 

Do Pokemon Black/White and Black2/White2 count as the same? Because they're not I'd say, but if you disagree then I have to change my list
