Bone Palace Ballet blows all of their stuff out of the water. All’s Well is stuck in the production of those early 2000’s post hardcore releases, but Bone Palace Ballet really did something. Truly full of bangers and I’d go see an anniversary tour of that album in a heartbeat even with the lip syncing. If we get a new Chiodos album it’s going to sound as lifeless as the past two DRUGS releases and that is sad. I don’t see Craig reinventing something on a new Chiodos record and will likely phone it in.
The devil hate doesn’t make sense to me. Always seemed like it stemmed from what it wasn’t more than what it was - it didn’t utilize erak well, it wasn’t the mature, reigned in album illuminaudio was, people were tired of craig drama, it came after that sound had lost its steam. All fair critiques. But it’s still loaded with catchy hooks, it has tighter songwriting than BPB, and it has some of their best songs like looking for a tornado. Idk, I think if it came out when BPB did or as a normal, drama-free follow up it would’ve helped them keep their momentum. all that said, I agree with the group that a chiodos follow up now sounds like DRUGS with better marketing. Still, the last DRUGS album is also banger after banger and this site is usually forgiving of bands that do what they gotta do to keep going. I’m optimistic it’ll be a fun album but I too hope they find a way to be more likable again lol
id probably be saying different things about it if i thought it was catchy but it has the weakest set of hooks ive heard on a project of his lol (not that i jammed the last drugs since at this point im checked out on anything new from him) munsters and under your halo are pretty good i guess but i think the areas in which the writing tightens v bpb mostly sees the songs lose a lot of their character
I toured with them during the devil headliner and it was such a mess behind the scenes. It felt like no one in the band wanted to be in a band with Craig but had to
If anyone is interested (and has 2 hours to spare, by the way), there's a Chiodos documentary on YouTube now that I had no idea existed. It goes into how the band got together when they were still in school, up until their reunion prior to 'Devil' being recorded.
Maybe the worst take I’ve ever seen on this website Illuminaudio >>> All’s Well > BPB > Devil I really feel like Illuminaudio was never given a fair shake with Craig’s absence, truly the sound of the band firing on all cylinders instrumentally and songwriting-wise. Justice for Brandon.
Illuminaudio will always be my favorite thing they did, even if it is mastered so fucking loud that listening to it for an extended period of time gives me a headache
Craig’s shamelessness is really souring any remaining interest I had in his music going forward, which was already low. None of his solo stuff made any impact, so while this makes sense financially for him it’s still unfortunate that he’s milking nostalgia this hard. DRUGS was arguably always centered around him even though there was a lot of instrumental talent behind him, so bringing back that name bothered me less than him now doing “Chiodos” with the same hired guns lineup. That band was way more than just Craig Owens.
I think Brandon has an incredibly dull, lifeless and forgettable voice. I have heard that album 10+ times and have no idea what any of it sounds like because his voice is like wallpaper. I'll never understand what the draw is with him
I will give you that Brandon had literally zero stage presence the two times I saw Chiodos with him on vocals
Yeah I couldn’t disagree more about Brandon’s voice, stage presence I can’t speak to as I didn’t see them live with him, but recorded I think he’s awesome. Craig definitely has a unique sound, but imo Brandon did a great job bringing some huge melodies and equally importantly, bringing his own style and not just trying to imitate Craig.
yeah absolutely no contest i prefer brandon. craig came into his own eventually but he is glaringly out of tune for like 80% of the debut
The weird thing about Brandon is the filter on his screams all over Illuminaudio, but I got used to that over the years.
umm yeah brandon didnt do much of anything to stand out or be memorable. actually i could say that about all of that album. hate it or love it craig was memorable. and devil was an extremely bad album for me like whoa.
yep. i always thought that was weird and not good also. if you need to put an annoying filter on your screams to get some more grit you know youre covering up for a weak scream. I suppose theres no definite right or wrong answers in music but what they did was weak imo.
Looks like bro is still lipsinging, something really weird about these videos. Think the mic just activates the tracks when he talks into it cause there’s moments he has the crowd sings but it never looks like he’s actually singing? No power changes to his voice at all https://youtu.be/pRJwOIPG0Es wish I could sell my tickets but I have will-call cause I bought on soundrink. Idk the travel I got to do and $80 for tickets for a
