the way they do the animation for salem/the true form is really cool

Just finished the pilot, and I'm loving this.

 

zelda is a tough hang

 

Two episodes in and liking it. Kind of slow moving, and I'm really not a big fan of the high school scenes and her friends. The witchcraft and dark/evil stuff is so interesting but then it turns into a teen drama randomly. Not unlike Sabrina, it doesn't seem like the show knows what it wants to be.

 

Okay, forget everything I said, by end of episode 3 I'm completely on board and loving this

 

Just finished the first episode. The aunts are great but everything else is pretty boring. Hoping it picks up.

 

I honestly don't even like Aunt Zelda at first but after a few episodes they figure her out and she's great. The show definitely picks up steam and is a huge improvement after episode 3. Hilda and Ambrose are definitely the highlights of this show so far for me, I'm just diving into episode 7

 

i felt the same about zelda but she definitely improves episode 4

 

How does this compare with the comic?

Im excited to see where this goes cause the first two episodes are fantastic and based off the comments in here, it only gets better!

Kiernan is great but she looks distractingly like Emma Watson sometimes, aided by her being a feminist queen "I have some reservations about saving myself for the Dark Lord why does he get to choose what I do with my body"
the racism allegory with calling her a half breed was kinda weird but overall her being between two worlds works well
I found it easy to separate this from the tv show minus not finding new Harvey as cute, I like Salem being a pure sweetie while Ambrose fills his role from the original
I can't tell if the music cues are too much with like Bad Moon Rising but Atomic by Blondie made me very happy

 

Not as dark overall, but it has its moments. There are definitely some small parts taken from the comics or some things loosely based, but overall it's kind of a different story and mixed with some typical CW type teen drama. But the moments that aren't like that are really cool and interesting, and they slowly kind of go away as the season progresses.

There is some really cheesy music that will randomly come on when Sabrina and Harvey have some sort of romantic "moment" that does make me cringe every now and then though lmao.

 

About to watch the last episode now, bummed to have to wait for Season 2!

I worry it'll get cancelled after that though, unfortunately. Between them cutting ties with certain Marvel shows and American Vandal, it seems that Netflix is slowly steering away from original shows that are co-owned by other studios. This is owned by Warner Bros, so we'll see

 

Pretty good finale. A little disappointing they had Sabrina sign the book, at least so soon. I get that's what they were building toward though.

Can we all just take a moment to acknowledge how bad the sleep demon looked? Like, that was 90s movie practical effects, it was very clearly a rubber suit lol

 

I have three days off from work after today, so I definitely see CAOS in my near future!

Except the Sleep Demon, like Ryan said above. Cool concept, but man that thing looked bad.

 

I loved everything about the sleep demon episode. The whole thing reminded me of Buffy.

 

I wouldn't worry too much, CW's international presence is pretty non-existent which has led to a pretty symbiotic relationship with Netflix. In fact Riverdale is considered a Netflix Original in countries outside the United States.

 

Where I live Riverdale is, some of the DC shows are, but like Jane The Virgin is on TV here, and past CW hit shows also used to be on TV. Most of the ones on TV however make it to Netflix once the next seasons starts.

 

Ooh very cool, I definitely hope it stays that way then!

 

I think this whole Netflix vs third party applies more to Netflix exclusives rather than shows they license from studios that also air them on TV?
