So pumped for the album. Song and video are fantastic statements to open the album cycle with. Dude's a visionary--I'm not even gonna try to sit here and unpack all of it. I think with this video, as well as with Atlanta, there are elements clearly made for an enjoyable first-watch/listen, yet it's meticulously crafted that repeated viewings are extremely rewarding. His music, his art, even elements of his public persona--they're not supposed to be easily-digestible. He's giving us the ugly truth alongside a slew of other things. Anyway, I've been jamming STN MTN a shit ton as the weather gets nicer and I plan on giving AML a relisten soon. Always preferred rap Gambino over his newest stuff, but then again I think I was just biased when it first came out.
Where do we think this is gonna chart? With the video going viral, I think this has a chance to crack the top 10 on first week.
I'm on like my 100th viewing of the video and I'm just now noticing that during the second verse a person falls from the scaffolding in the background.
This Is America is the #1 song on iTunes right now, and Awaken My Love is #5 and Because the Internet is #8, safe to say this album is going to be pretty huge
I've been relistening to Culdesac lately, this song is underrated I listened to this mixtape nonstop when it came out
To go along with Derrick Comedy, it's crazy how much Donald has evolved since then, considering his first big viral video was (ugh) "Bro Rape," a video that has aged like a carton of milk in the desert.
BTI is a mixed bag but that record really marked a giant transition in his development as an artist. Pretty sure that was around the time he walked away from Community to start developing Atlanta as well.
I like Crawl, Worldstar, Shadows, Sweatpants, 3005, and the last track a lot. I never come back to the rest of it at all. Also Nights by Frank Ocean bears incredible resemblance to Life: The Biggest Troll and I’ve never been a huge fan of that Frank song as a result Nights is a way better song imo but I can’t get that comparison out of my head when it comes on
