just hit play and I'm losing my mind that this opens with the alternate/poppy Atavista, not the one that was specifically designed/played as the intro to Algorhythm. I swear this dude just likes fucking with us lmao

 

some of this is an improvement, I especially like how spacious the new mix of Sweet Thang is and the Summer Walker feature, but man did he absolutely butcher Psilocybae and To Be Hunted lol. the original one-two punch was one of the best moments in his whole discog and the new versions are just worse in every way. really baffling stuff

 

Listening now. Thought that Algorithm and Time sounded really improved from the originals. But I'm listening to Psilocybae right now and something just feels...off. Like is it his vocals that are more loud & aggressive? I can't put my finger on it but I feel like the original release was much more chill.

He did post on IG a teaser for the Psilocybae music video and it looks wild.

 

yeah the excessive reverb and compression on Psilocybae is not it. 21 Savage's verse sounds so much worse, you can hear the compression artifacts in it. then To Be Hunted just has a new vocal take that's lacking all the emotion, it feels so lifeless. and he cut out the great transition between those songs for some reason!

Time does sound really good as well yes

 

I love Donald but I have not been able to get into his music since that first Childish Gambino EP.

 

Has he ever played arenas like this?

He did on the last tour. It was super successful but that was right after This Is America came out so we’ll see if he can repeat

 

I 1000% read this as Willow Nightingale opening for him and I had a fever dream.

 

Listened to this today, and as someone who doesn't have a beat-by-beat memory of the album, it feels mostly like the same album to my ears

also listened today and not hyper familiar with the original. this one seemed a bit more approachable with crisper production and less interludes, based on my initial impression. very good stuff

 

was Little Foot on the original version? Because I thoroughly hate this song

 

it was but the Nudy verse is new

 

This revamp was worth it just to finally have Human Sacrifice on streaming.

Also it reminded me how good Final Church is.

 

I didn't really care for the original album when it dropped, felt pretty forgettable to me for the most part, but curious to give it another try with this new version

 

This has been a fun listen for the day.

Grabbing tickets later this week is sure to be a shitshow.

I got the full experience for this album by listening to it while stuck in rush hour Atlanta traffic yesterday. Felt like Donald had to imagine that listening experience while writing the album so I found it fitting.
