I think it’s as simple as he thinks “this guy is my main inspiration and I think he’s the greatest ever. I want him on the album”
Yeah it’s not that complicated. Same reason JPEG totally sold out on all his principles. He’s their idol and can’t really do anything wrong. great reminder to kill your idols
yeah can't say I'm super surprised by this. dude put Chet Haze in Atlanta lol, he unfortunately loves this shit
Yeah, was gonna say whoever said they don't view Glover as trying to be provocative then you haven't watched Atlanta

Absolutely NOT trying to make an excuse but there is serious speculation that this Kanye verse is AI, if you listened to the full Gilga episodes there's a lot of AI stuff in there, including a bit with a fake Elon Musk voice right before the song. I genuinely don't know what I believe, if it's AI it sounds scarily good but there are certain parts that don't really sound like Kanye inflections (and kinda sound like Gambino inflections) and sound too much like his old self, but that could also totally be in my imagination. If it's real then it is what it is. I would be a bit surprised that he would go for it despite how much he worshipped Kanye in the past, but like others have said, I think it's going to take a lot to fully kill the idol worship for Kanye in hip-hop. Either way it definitely gives me a bit of a weird feeling, as collaborating with either AI or Kanye both come with their fair share of controversy Ironically even just a few years ago a Gambino/Kanye song would be a fucking a pipe dream for me but now that it (potentially) exists it just feels... weird
As a more positive post, I am still incredibly happy to hear him lean fully into rapping like this again. Those other songs he dropped are amazing, and the tour is great news too
Donald does say "You n*** deepfake, you n*** AI." And then "Kanye" starts rapping. And I dunno, something about the way he says the word "paparazzi" makes me think its not really him. Until we get confirmation, I'm gonna stay optimistic that he didnt actually make a song with him lol
This right here is why I don’t understand the discourse at the moment. He not only said Kanye was the greatest rapper of all time but MBDTF was the best album. The dude is clearly a fan lol
Yeah if it's AI then that's a different discussion as it'll greatly depend on the context not getting my hopes up though and there's a high bar to clear to justify the use if that's the case
Yeah I mean, I guess there could be a way to do it where it makes sense… based on the snippet though it doesn’t seem likely that is the case.
Lol honestly am baffled by it. He premiered other songs too on the radio show. He's a diehard fan of Kanye’s. Most of your favorite hip hop artists are. It is what it is.
Cause Kanye is a giant piece of shit so people are going to be disappointed when an artist they like has him on a song? Y’all don’t have to be so obtuse.
It’s not about being obtuse lol Glover has praised Kanye since the Nazi stuff so why is it a surprise? If he was comfortable enough to praise him during a press junket for Mr. and Mrs. Smith, why wouldn’t he out him on the album? I agree it’s fucked of him to do it but it’s just not remotely surprising
Stupid question…but did any hip hop artists publicly denounce Kanye when he was peak-Nazi? I can’t remember any.
Never said that LOL I’m just very confused about idk I guess the confusion surrounding it. We should talk about it and put Glover on blast, but acting like this is super out of left field when it isn’t, isn’t productive either imo.
It’s also one thing to talk positively about Kanye in public and another to collaborate with him on your work.
