Its a bummer that he had one of the biggest songs of the year and then just sort of half rolled out an album.
Holy shit. I know the roll out was weird and it missed out on 2 days in the tracking week but this only did 25k first week, compared to The Weeknd doing 445k
I genuinely don’t think this is the real album he’s been working on. It really feels like a collection of b-sides they he felt like releasing while people were quarantined. ...I hope.
I wanna say that you're just getting your hopes up, but what's making me skeptical like you is the fact that Feels Like Summer is on here, and Saturday and Human Sacrifice aren't. Why would an old single, Feels Like Summer, be on here, but not other singles like Summertime Magic and This is America? I really wish he came out and explained himself a bit. AND the version of Feels Like Summer that's on here has a different IRC, so none of the streams it accumulated over the last two years counts toward the album's SEA.
But on the flip side I don't see this as a b sides album because I can't imagine Vibrate, Under the Sun, Time and Beautiful being songs that didn't make the final cut. If the world wasn't in quarantine do you think the album would've came out when it did, or that the album title would've just been that date with a white cover? I'd love to know if this was rushed out or if this was always the rollout plan.
Nothing at 3 AM on Sunday, which is when shit started happening both of the last two weekends :( Still not convinced this is it
I've listened to this all the way through quite a few times now and for the most part I like it. Algorthythm is an absolute jam (though I wish the chorus came around one more time before it ends). Under The Sun is one of his best. I also love Beautiful, Vibrate, and Violence. Feels Like Summer is still great. I even like Little Foot, Big Foot. It's similar to California in that it's probably a little to goofy/silly for its own good, but I find it charming nonetheless. The tracks I find myself always skipping (0.00, Time, Why Go to the Party and 39.28) are just doubly frustrating because I know there are better tracks out there which could have taken their place (Atavista, Human Sacrifice, Saturday, This Is America).
I really wish Algorhythm's verses were more in your face, like when he performed it on the tour. Also Big Foot Little Foot has really grown on me. I hope this gets pressed to vinyl soon.
This could be absolutely nothing but given his sporadic Twitter use it's probably worth at least raising an eyebrow at. Time will tell...
I made a Best of Gambino playlist and put it on shuffle. It went from Lights Turned On to Redbone. Blows my mind that this is the same artist, and the songs were made only 5 years apart. His artistic growth has been absolutely insane.
I think it’s funny that he wrote a full screenplay for BTI and couldn’t even write song titles for this
As a big fan who has enjoyed this album for the most part, I feel like he really botched the rollout for this. Oh well.
