This album would be so much better if the first song was replaced by Atavista, and if Human Sacrifice was anywhere on it at all. (Also not a big deal but summertime magic > feels like summer)
"Human Sacrifice" in place of the third version of "Feels Like Summer" in three consecutive years would have been so kino. I actually enjoy the intro to this album a lot as much as "Atavista" was sweet
I'm actually actively kind of avoiding listening to this too much because I'm so convinced there is more coming Evidence off the top of my head: - The four album covers on the site a few weeks ago, only for this release to just have a white square as the cover - The note calling this the "first book" - Code on the donaldgloverpresents.com website refers to this as "Weekend 2" - The songs had titles last week but now don't - The album just being named after the day it first streamed on, not even the day it was released, would be an extremely odd choice if it was final, but a lot more sense if it's part of something bigger - The fact that there is no merch or vinyl preorders or anything for sale at all could indicate this isn't the final product - Donald didn't even personally acknowledge the release; he basically only uses social media to announce/promote things - Several missing tracks that we know of the existence of There's more on the Donald subreddit but these seem like the most concrete
"The songs had titles last week but now don't" those were all fanmade bar "Algorhythm" and "Time" which came from setlists and Guava Island respectively, the stream itself had no info whatsoever "Several missing tracks that we know of the existence of" that's kinda been his way for a long time lol. as for this cycle he pretty much already gave us "Saturday" on Guava Island, "Atavista" was just an intro thing, and he straight up said "Human Sacrifice" was probably gonna be live-only towards the end of the tour but we all pretended not to hear him some of the other stuff is kind of interesting but as evidence for a whole other album? idk man. I hate to be that guy but I think this is just NATION all over again lol
Last track was great, possibly the best on here. About to run it back, but I initially liked it more than Awaken but not as much as BTI.
Appreciate what you got my dude. Wild fan theories lead to nothing but disappoint. (I can point you to a thousand albums we’re fans expected more but didn’t get it)
Yeah I wouldn't get my hopes up with another album coming. I'm just dissapointed with the lack of an album title/album art/song titles. Love the album though.
yeah the last track is soooo good. if that's the last Childish Gambino song, which it well could be, I love that he ended it with a song about loving yourself. he has come a long way since Camp lmao
Is that the last song, or the penultimate song? I would've liked it so much better if The Violence was the last song, with the album closing on him talking to his son about loving himself. Under The Sun is my favorite song on this, though. Seeing that song living on my gym playlist for a very long time.
Having no song titles of art doesn’t really bother me. I forget my favourite song titles most of the time tbf.
Yea, I'm so so on this. I like the sound he's going for on it, but it doesn't always hit the mark. Not much is standing out to me outside of Algorythm, Feels Like Summer, and 53.49. It could definitely use Human Sacrifice and Saturday. Gonna spin it a few more times though.
The track titles are cool if you're running. It basically tells you what your time is as each new track starts. haha
Yeah I meant the "Under the Sun" song, it picks up the self-love theme from when he's talking to his son and runs with it. Second verse ends with "Never said it even though I prolly should, I said I love me, l said I love me" which is a lovely sentiment to end on. Much prefer it as a closer to "The Violence"
I'm not usually one to buy into those (I never believed NATION was a thing for example) but there's just something fishy about this release to me. He's usually so incredibly meticulous about every aspect of his album rollouts but this one just felt off. I'll happily admit I'm wrong if this coming weekend comes and goes with no changes to the website (well, not happily lol) but I've totally bought into this for the time being I don't actually think it's four albums for the record though, that would be insane lol
This was a weird album for me. I never got super into AML personally and like his older rappy mixtape shit a lot more. I didn't really know what to expect going in, but I did love all the singles he officially released. That said, a couple of the songs on here are fire as hell and some of the others I'm really struggling to enjoy. There are moments on this album that remind me of Gorillaz, moments that remind me of Young Thug, moments that remind me of Kanye--all interesting directions, but it never really comes together IMO. I got an "identity crisis" vibe throughout the album, which held me back from enjoying it fully, and it's only deepened by the (lack of) album art, (lack of) rollout, and (lack of) song/album titles.
Listened through once and there were a few interesting bits here and there but I don't see myself throwing this on ever again
Ya, there are a lot of interesting things going on with this, but I don't love any of the songs other than the previously released Feels Like Summer.
