I am so heartbroken for the Twisted Hippo folks. They were always the nicest brewery owners and employees. Apartment Building Fire Spreads To Twisted Hippo Brewery, Causing Partial Collapse In Albany Park; 5 People Displaced – CBS Chicago
Bumping my band's show tonight in Wicker Park. This show has a pretty awesome lineup: we're opening with some angular surf-grunge, then there's some garage rock, indie pop, and lounge funk to follow. Come on out! I'll be the tall bearded guy behind the drums in the opener, Ultimately Fruitless.
Do ya'll have a recommendation for a good event calendar/place to see what's happening in the city? Bonus if it's more music/comedy focused. Heading down from Minneapolis tomorrow, our only plans are to see Greg Barnett on Friday and we don't have anything planned for Saturday yet. I know TWY are playing that night but we just caught that show here last night. Been to the city plenty of times so we've already hit most of the touristy stuff. Really the only other thing we want to do for sure is eat good food and hang at the G Man for awhile. Will be happy to just run around too, it's gonna be 68 degrees on Saturday?!?! Appreciate it!
Love a good Gman session. My girlfriend will look at Do312 on Instagram a decent amount. Pulls in things we normally wouldn’t think to do. I think the planetarium opened back up not too long ago as well. I am a dullard and usually just look at the specific venues to see what’s happening. There are a couple comedy venues in Lakeview that usually have stuff each night. One is on halsted in boys town and the other by Belmont.
Also, not sure if the pages are getting updated as often since the pandemic bc I haven’t checked myself, but the events pages for each neighborhood used to be another good resource. That could be different now of course.
My partner was on the blue line this morning where multiple people were smoking and one was screaming in her face. Such a sad situation all around.
There have been tons of posts about this on the Chicago subreddit. I take the Red Line the most and I’ve noticed it a lot. I know it’s really bad on the Blue Line though. The subway should be a safe mode of transportation for workers, residents, and tourists to get from point A to point B without fearing for their life or dealing with all the shit that has been going on lately on the subway.
Totally forgot to promote this here, but I'm playing Beat Kitchen tonight, opening for Nathan Gray of Boysetsfire. https://www.beatkitchen.com/event-d...eff-schaller-and-the-long-way-home-dreadwolf/
So radius is a nice new venue. Been there for 3 shows the past couple of weeks and really enjoyed the venue.
To each their own, but I loathe Radius. The weird dining room bar area. The merch line that ends up backing to the bar line and then security regulates how many people can be in that bar line. Granted there are several bars at least. The whole shotgun feel for that size of venue is not my favorite thing. The balcony area where you have to look around giant pillars doesn’t seem ideal. Not the most convenient to get to and from. I’ll probably end up seeing a few shows there, but it’s one of my least favorite venues around.
Yeah I was going to ask how is it getting out of there? I want to see beach house there but not sure I want to deal with the location.
I haven’t been but it’s about half a mile from the red line according to google maps. I don’t drive so I take the subway or Uber to shows and with Uber being so expensive and the subway being the cesspool it is, especially late at night, I don’t know if I will go there anytime soon. Plus walking to the subway in Chinatown at night seems like not the best idea. Unless someone I really like ends up playing there, then I will consider going.
I'll take Radius > Riviera any day of any week so I'm happy it's there as an alternative to a venue that size. And I do like Radius itself. It's pretty easy to get a decent sight line since it's so open, and it's got a decent vibe But ya last time I went a red line train was going to take like 20 minutes so I had to get a very overpriced uber. Location and convenience of public transportation nearby is not very ideal. And pretty pricy drinks but I mean that's no different than Aragon or anything like that.
