I personally do like Reckless (Wicker Park > Lakeview > Loop), and would recommend Rattleback Records in Andersonville too. If you don’t mind another museum rec, I’d suggest the American Writers Museum in the Loop.
The Lakeview and downtown Recklesses are great. Wicker Park location typically feels pretty picked-over to me. Seconding Bucket O Blood.
We have a friend of my wife from out of the country staying with us for a few weeks and she really wants to go to Navy Pier to see the fireworks on NYE and I really really don't want to do that. I went there once 4 years ago, I planned on getting there an hour before the fireworks and still had to make a run for it to get there on time. I did get a SpotHero parking half a mile away but somehow I feel like even if I plan on getting there at 10 it still won't be enough (I'm coming from the west suburbs).
My girlfriend and I did Wndr and thought it was just ok. We prefer Field and Shedd. The art museum is good too. I like Reckless, but Bucket is my favorite. Whereare you guys staying?
I’d probably just hit the Reckless in the loop if you are doing museums already. If you are staying in one of the west burbs I could see doing Shuga, Bucket, and Reckless on the west side.
@cherrywaves Just given your presence in the metal and hardcore threads, I'd say a visit to Bucket O' Blood is in order. They’re the best record store in the city for that genre.
Chicago History Museum is a cool one although not really centrally located, as is the Mexican Museum of Art Hanging out with MexicanGuitars also an option
I definitely agree with @swboyd that Bucket is the best record store (especially for hardcore and metal), but I was trying to be realistic and think about proximity to things, given they are staying in the burbs and probably have limited time.
Thanks everyone, the whole fam came along and we planned a little poorly, but the Field was sick and we might have time to putz around tomorrow but idk. I definitely owe @MexicanGuitars a beer
Love to live in a city where the mayor actively dislikes the governor who is in the same political party and actually has some fucking sense
Shuga and Reckless were tight. Didn’t get the chance to hit up Bucket O Blood, Myopic Books or Logan Arcade. Pequods was bomb. Cool city!
If I am going to have deep dish/pan style pizza, Pequods is my preferred option. If you ever visit again you should do tavern style pizza.
Happy New Year everyone! When the pandemic is behind us (hopefully 2022), we should plan a big chorus meet up with everyone in Chicago to celebrate the pandemic being behind us and finally all meeting.
Being a parent with a child in CPS has been a real ride these last two years. Pretty disappointed in everyone right now tbh.
I find it amusing that Arne Duncan is now being publicly discussed as a potential challenger for Lori, given that he might be someone the CTU hates just as much as they do Lori. I hope someone good actually throws their hat in and finds support.
