That's just ironic enough that people would flock to that. Does the draft happen in Chicago??? I am clearly clueless about football. Last night I decided to buy a ticket for the fiest night of IIOI so Ill be at both shows now! (Ill also be seeing Bad Bad Hats tonight and Slingshot Dakota on Monday if anyone is going to be at those shows)
This is the second year the draft will be in Chicago. It was such a pain in the ass this weekend when they were setting up all around Grant Park. They wouldn't let me take my future in-laws to Buckingham Fountain because NFL security was blocking most of the paths through.
Im always so happy I rarely have reason to go downtown. That sucks they prevented you from showing your family part of the city.
I live in the West Loop so I am always down here haha. I don't mind it, especially now that we have things like the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, and as I get older I hate tourists less. I guess I must be mellowing.
I'll probably be at Slingshot Dakota. The Howl are friends of my roommate, so I always try to catch them when possible.
I'll be at Lord Mantis at Empty Bottle tonight and Like Rats at Subt on Sunday. If anyone's gonna be at those...which I doubt.
I know all ages shows start super early because of whatever curfew law or what not venues have to follow but why do age restricted shows in this city always start so god damn late? I'm a bit of an old woman in the fact that I'm annoyed the band I want to see doesn't go on at 11:15 but is it really so much to ask for shows to start at 7:30 or 8? I personally love that I get home before 11 for most all ages shows I go to.
The Eskimeaux show started at 7:00 and was done by nine, me and all my friends missed parts of it because we aren't used to shows starting that early.
Great weekend back in the city. Visited a bunch of my former professors/bosses/colleagues at DePaul, a mandatory Binny's run, then went to Butcher and Burger with a couple friends and then on to IIOI at Lincoln Hall. Also went to Bohemian House in River North yesterday which was phenomenal. Inventive Czech/German/Hungarian cuisine which I can only describe as "last meal" material lol.
So that IIOI/TWIABP/Sidekicks/Pinegrove show last night was fantastic. Every band killed it and Lincoln Hall is the fucking best.
True Widow at Subterranean last night was pretty rad. I started zoning out towards the end though but that's just shoegaze for ya.
Never been to Bohemian House but just checked out their website and it looks really cool. I'll put that on my list. I ate at Promontory in Hyde Park this weekend. Really good cocktails and the food was delicious. Unfortunately it took over an hour and a half for our food to be served and we were late for a movie so I had to scarf down what I had.
Im so mad I had to miss Pinegrove on night one because of work. They were phenomenal last night. Zine Fest was wicked rad. Did anyone else go? I also had my first Weiner Circle experience last night (and first Chicago dog). What an establishment.
