sirens went off here, we had to grab our 6 month old and dog and head to the basement. I dont recall a tornado scare happening in the 11 years ive lived in the city.
My dog was going nuts, so i woke up. But the tornados never got too close to Logan afik so we didn’t go down to the basement or anything. Hope you all are ok!
There was something last year during covid. I remember we had to pick kids up from daycare down the street and sit in basement with neighbors in masks haha.
Yeah the derecho/incorporated Rogers Park tornado. That was also wild but fortunately not as destructive
Longshot but if anyone is thinking about going to the Julien Baker show on Th Sept 23rd, but hasn’t bought tickets yet, I’d love to sell you 1-2. I’ll eat the fees. I’m trying to see her on Wednesday night now so I can see Mt Joy / Trampled by Turtles on Thursday.
Our place is a raised first level and then a garden level space and we had some minor flooding yesterday. Not ideal by any means but it could have been much worse compared to what other people had to deal with. We have fake wood vinyl down there so it was just a matter of wiping it down and getting fans going.
Heading down to Chicago with a buddy in a few weeks, probably going to do Second City and maybe a White Sox game...anything else y'all recommend for touristy stuff that locals still enjoy? Pretty well covered for places to eat and drink.
Chicago River Architecture Boat Tour. Best way to see the city while being outside and getting the history in. Also the further north on the lakefront you go for beaches/the trail (past Belmont) the better.
Time spent by the Lake is always good. The Lincoln Park Zoo/Conservatory is free and cool. Chinatown rocks.
I'll second the boat tour. It's expensive, but it's really great, especially if you enjoy history and/or architecture.
