Weird, their Facebook says 9/15, but I trust the venue site more! I will be there with bells on. EDIT: Ticket purchased. Excited to see a headline set since I've only seen them at Riot Fest and open for JEW.
fiance and i moved to north center last weekend. finally settled - i don't know this area at all...does any one have any food recs? Other than bad apple, which rules. Thank y'all!
Lou Malnati's for pizza, of course. Just order a deep dish "The Lou" and thank me later. Fountainhead on Damen and Montrose is pretty good, and Cho Sun Ok on Lincoln and Berteau is a great little Korean spot.
oh yeah, had lou's many times - ive been in the city for 8 years. easily my favorite of the chicago styles. And yes - ive heard Cho Sun Ok is great! Thanks for the recs!
Ah okay, I misread and thought you had just moved to the city. I used to live near there, but that was like 6+ years ago so little from that time is left.
yeah, maybe my wording was confusing. i was in the west loop -> wicker -> south loop for all these years, i dont know that ive stepped foot up this way haha. seems great so far though.
I made the opposite trek. Lived up that way with my wife for a few years and then moved south (McKinley Park, just south of Pilsen and west of Bridgeport) so that we could get more space and actually be able to afford it.
The Wild Goose is good for laid back bar fare and a sizable draft list. They are mostly known for the wings, but I really liked their buffalo chicken wrap.
I love the area, so much good food up on the north side. We love Rockwell's on Rockwell for laid back great food, Cafe Salmarie for brunch. Also check out the Wobbler and Gather. Same owner, Gather is fancier/pricer but amazing, Wobbler is a bit more laid back and cheaper but also great. Gideon Welles is very legit as well. Been in the area for 5 years or so, so let me know if you have any questions or need more recommendations.
Posting this here rather than in the politics forum because I think I’ll get more answers here. I just moved here a year ago, why is Mike Madigan’s name attached to every attack ad, no matter than candidate?
He has had a number of controversies. See: Michael Madigan - Wikipedia He represents a very small district on the southwest side of Chicago but has pretty much all the power in Springfield. Also, there are numerous articles about how "bad" he is. Here are just a few: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/commentary/ct-perspec-madigan-dual-role-problem-0420-20180418-story.html Madigan under fire again over handling of sexual harassment claims, asks for watchdog investigation Former Madigan employee says House speaker covered up harassment complaint, retaliated against her Special Report: The man behind the fiscal fiasco in Illinois
Beyond what Andrew posted, he's the longest serving speaker of a state level legislature in the country and the most prominent representative of the Democratic "machine" here in Illinois that a lot of people view as the primary sources of corruption and financial mismanagement that has driven the state into the ground fiscally. He's also a prominent tax attorney who has benefited a fair amount from the tax situation in the state...there's a bunch of other nebulous factors including the ones in the above post. Regardless, he stays in power because he delivers for his constituents. As a result, you can't blame them. All that said, he's a small piece of the whole on why the state is fucked and likely on the road to bankruptcy. Someone who's lived in the state longer than 5 years might have a lot more and more profound thoughts than I do on the matter.
Yo! I'm just north of you at Wilson/Western. Welcome to the area! In addition to the other places folks have mentioned: Sticky Rice on Western is great Thai but I am partial to Spoon Thai because it is literally around the corner from me. The Globe is pretty great, if you're looking for a European-style pub with good food. You have 4 breweries in your immediate walking vicinity: Half Acre, Dovetail, Begyle, Band of Bohemia. Want a super great beer shop? Bottles and Cans on Lincoln is fantastic.
Thanks for the refs! Im actually super close to half acre and stopped in bottles and cans a few days ago. Love this area so far.
West Lakeview Liquors on Addison is also really good. People travel pretty far to go there. It's kind of funny. It's probably a little far for you, but Bitter Pops on Lincoln in Lakeview is also really good for the newest local brewery. They have a good loyalty program and tasting room.
Nice! It’s a pretty cool spot with really nice people who work there. It has a nice neighborhood feel to it. Hopefully they have some good stuff on tap for you guys!
Having Beans and Bagels around the corner is such a blessing some mornings. Love their coffee and people are always awesome
