Anyone going to a taping of The Daily Show at the Atheneaum Theatre? Asking because I am tomorrow and sorta felt like bragging.
The National is playing a House of Vans show on Monday with admittance determined by their usual system. Enter to win tix here: House of Vans Presents An Evening With The National
So I got two tickets for this and am waiting for delivery via email after inputting my personal info/email. Won't be able to make it down there until after work, though - circa 5:45. Will I still have a shot at getting in?
No idea - depends on how many people are getting there early to wait outside. I have no idea what the HoV's cap is, but know it's first come, first serve for entry.
Thanks! Didn't know if this was one of those things people typically line up HOURS in advance for, but at least worth a shot and a rare excuse to go into the city after work for me.
Depends what you're looking for - are you looking for one of those bars that has all the trimmings of a dive, but does it for stylized reasons or are you looking for an actual honest-to-god shithole? Here's a decent list I found on Reddit that should tie you over: The Loop: Cardozo's, Sky-Ride Tap Bridgeport: Bernice's Lincoln Square: St Pauli Club Andersonville: Simon's Edgewater: Ollie's Pilsen: Caminos De Michoacan, Skylark River North: Rossi's, Shamrock Club Lincoln Park: Rose's, Galway Rogers Park: Sovereign Avondale: Alice's River West: The Matchbox UK Village: Happy Village/Innertown/J&M Tap Old Town: Old Town Ale House Ravenswood: Oakwood 83 Lakeview: L&L
I'll cosign Rossi's and Shamrock Club. With Rossi's, it's cash only and you'll probably have to get there decently early as it fills up pretty quick. Snicker's is right down the street too and is a bit bigger, yet is just as much a dive.
I just watched a man die. There was a shooting at the Starbucks near my house. I was 15 feet away. In Uptown.
It was Lawrence. The detective said "this" usually doesnt make it's way that far North.I'm fine...just kind of in shock. Scary because I manage a Sbux downtown. A kid got shot. No more than 11. Just minding his own business. He sat down at the table I was at no more than 15 minutes before but I moved because it didn't have an outlet for my laptop. The guy was getting chased and he ran into the Starbucks...some guy just put his arm through the door and starting shooting
1 dead, 2 wounded, including 12-year-old boy, in shooting at Uptown Starbucks Christ that’s awful. Was just over there not too long ago.
Literally just read about this story before coming to this thread. So terrible. Hope you're doing okay and so sad to hear about these things happening. Hoping the best for the other victims.
Repost from the Beer Thread, but my local brewery, Pollyanna, is opening its second location tomorrow in Roselle. Definitely trying to get over there soon if not tomorrow.
