It's a relic, for sure! Wild to think that what bars were like when I was first able to attend them. It's like stepping into a time machine.
anyone hear about this? my friend sent me a reel about it on IG today Chicago officials warn of potential rabid bat exposure at Salt Shed concert – NBC Chicago
punk rock show down in the south suburbs, come out if you are free! tickets: Holiday Hangover - Southside Chicago Punk — Blue Island Beer Co. Online Marketplace
The Dmen Tap - Bucket of Blood - Avondale Coffee Club triangle rocks. It’s like a 10 minute walk for me.
my old therapist's office was above the dance studio there, I miss having an excuse to be in that area every week
My old band used to practice at The Music Factory and get beers afterward at The Beer Temple. Such a great little hot spot right there.
I have complaints about Coffee Club because the owners of Reprise are bad people (unpaid artists for their work, dick neighbors as I've heard from friends) so I'll never go back but that corner is special. My animal shelter is just down the road so they're all good neighbors.
Oh damn good to know! I go to the Brewed 60% of the time i hit a coffee shop, so I’ll just keep heading there.
It definitely didn't get picked up at all wrt the unpaid artists because that was when the Coffee Club closed for a bit, too. And the whole neighbor thing is just me with friends but they were massive assholes to the whole building.
The Brewed is the right choice in almost all instances (though I think y'all are getting a Metric up in Avondale soon, which is also good shit)
Speaking of coffee shops, idk how many of y'all are near it but the new Sputnik cafe/roastery is SO NICE. If you're able to get there (really driving/49 bus are your only options unless you're already in the neighborhood, it's by 48th and Western) and you've got an open Saturday morning I highly recommend.
I will also throw out Magnifico as being great just up Milwaukee but you can't go wrong with either. That's always the issue with getting down there for anything - the drive or transit ride is just so brutal.
