This is the fourth time they have had to push back the opening lol, they were originally supposed to start having shows in May idk why they jumped the gun when they were nowhere near close to ready to open

I will tell anyone who listens that this current wave of acts coming out of Chicago feels like the early 2000 scene. I love it so much. Chicago hasn't gotten this much attention in a long time.

 

I wish any of them did anything for me other than Dehd, who I Love. Friko....OK, need to spend some more time there.

 

Unfortunately lacking some of the other acts that I'd love to see mentioned but hey, can't get everything.

Friko isn’t really my jam but it’s cool they’re blowing up. I like Lifeguard and Horsegirl pretty well. City’s post-punk, hardcore, dream pop scenes are all so sick. Excrusis, Ira Glass, Stuck, Stalled, Ganser, Sunshy, Melkbelly, Astrobrite, Daundry, Bussy Kween Power Trip, Smut etc. And the R&B/hip hop scene is really something special rn too.

Some more perspective on the heat wave. Haven't seen this in 19 years, my memory says the longest stretch before that would be 1995 and that heat wave still breaks my heart.

Article says the longest stretch of above-70 degree nighttime temps was 1933. There were days in 1995 that it didn't get below 80 degrees at night.

 

Is it even that hot out?? Maybe I'm too close to the lake, but it is is hot, but nothing crazy. I just went for a 12 mile bike ride and it wasn't bad.

 

I'm out in Avondale, says 94 is the air temp, 99 is what it feels like. I believe there's more of a breeze today than yesterday before the brief rain so it's not as harsh.

 

Yeah in Logan and it’s hot. I think it’s less about the temperature itself being off the charts and more about the lack of any relief from the heat.

 

Yep, that's what was truly the worst in 1995. It never got cool.

 

My friend saw Brigitte Calls Me Baby open for Muse at the Riv in 2022 and told me afterwards they were going to blow up soon (I had never heard of them before) and sure enough that is exactly what is happening lol

It's ungodly hot out in Lombard already. Not going to be a fun week.

It is rad to see the Chicago scene getting lots of attention right now. It seems like this whole scene really sprung up around Depaul while I was more involved with the suburbs pop punk scene (or just not playing/going to many shows during the pandemic), so I feel like I'm playing catchup on a lot of these bands.

 

yeah staying w my gf's mom in wheaton till we can move in and she has no AC (it's broken). it's 90 degrees inside lol

The one dude from that band makes music as Lake J now, I think he just put out an album under that name.

 

Like half of them are with Waxahatchee.

 

So that explains the frequent Chicago shows this year. I thought it was just one.

 

Also helps that Spencer Tweedy is the drummer for Katie.
