4-Year-Old Boy Shot, Critically Wounded In Humboldt Park This is so terrifying. My wife was on that stretch of North Avenue about 10 minutes before this shooting occurred. Just more awful fodder for my intrusive thoughts.
New 750-capacity music venue opening this summer called Outset, it's half a block away from The Hideout
That venue looks GORGEOUS. New stadium looks pretty rad - especially if they want to expand it to be communal.
Emery and The Almost had a date there for next month and today I got an email saying it was moved to the Chop Shop
Kindly looking for recs for someone (me) visiting Chicago for the first time. After a bit of research I'm thinking 3-4 days staying in Wicker Park?
I mean I definitely would prefer staying there than River North or Downtown personally but it really depends what you are most interested in. If you really want to hit a bunch of museums and historic/tourist sites day in/day out than commuting in from Wicker might be a bit more of a pain. If you don’t think you’ll need to be that central all the time and be able to explore more neighborhoods than Wicker sounds logical.
Anyone been looking at apartments recently and having issues? Just starting to look for August for my partner and I to move in and we contacted one place the day of and found it had multiple applications submitted the first day it was listed, sight unseen. Idk how reasonable people are supposed to compete with that, but reading Reddit seems like this might be a common issue. Edit: the place leased for $600 through list price. A RENTAL
Seeing posts on neighborhood groups on the North side, it seems like rental market is crazy right now.
I was only to find a place last time I rented through Craigslist and getting in before anyone else by messaging the guy that we could only see it one day early And that was 9 years ago? Yeah it’s wild out here, or overpriced, and you’re gonna get scammed regardless.
basically all over the city lol - but the offer is for a spot in lincoln park that is a bit over our budget but will be sick if we get it, and we're willing to sacrifice a bit to make it work. 70+ people went to the open house though, so feeling like a shot in the dark.
Wife and I are looking to buy end of year/beginning of 2025. She is wanting a house and a plot and I’m fine with a nice, spacious condo. We want a dog and no kids, which affects the decision.
if i learn anything from this process would definitely be willing to share - feel free to holler when you start down the path
