It's wild that it's been 20 years. I'll always remember waking up to the Sun-Times on 4/1 that year. The way it was done aside, what is there in place of Meigs is much better.
And, if I recall, the city was fined by the FAA for not giving adequate notice. I remember the stranded planes having to take off from the taxiway in order to get out.
My freshman year of college we took a tour of the old passenger terminal at Meigs, was super weird thinking about how close to the city an airport could be. But since then i've flown in a few times to Billy Bishop in Toronto which is a larger version of the same thing, wild to think about how this happened.
I love how the old building is still there. Billy Bishop is one of my favorite airports because it’s on an island.
Wow. Had no idea that all went down and have been to two shows at Northerly Island since moving here a year ago.
Yep, you can still see the old ATC tower on the building. When they have you line up down the pavilion and into the park, you're right at the north end of the old airport.
Beer bat snake in the bleachers? I'm more surprised they'd give people something that's close to a weapon.
I was wondering what those where. I saw a bunch of people walking around with them after the game while I was standing in line at the metro for the rise against concert
Oh fun… this has to be on a night I’ll be in the city again for rise against. Not looking forward to the weather tonight
A 1:00 PM show down the road from me is the dream, but unfortunately I’ll be out of town that day. Other suburbs folks should check it out though.
