Personally, I think it’s extremely rare that what’s in the best interests of workers in a city is not in the city’s best interest, but I also do my best to not argue politics outside the politics thread, so let’s just be glad the dude we voted for made the runoff i suppose.
He brings up good points but ya really gonna throw away your endorsement and handful of votes to let a proto-fascist win?
Visiting for the week starting Sunday morning, staying in Logan Square. Going to TWY/Hot Mulligan/Carly Cosgrove on Thursday night. food/bar/coffee recs, please
Breakfast at Cozy Corner for sure. Harding Tavern had good burgers when I lived there, but it's been a while.
I live in Logan! Here’s some neighborhood recs: coffee - the brewed, four letter word, gaslight, brew brew, cafe mustache food - same day cafe, longman & eagle, taqueria moran, cozy corner (my favorite brunch spot in the city is dove’s luncheonette, which is just a few stops away on the blue line over in wicker park), taqueria mazamitla, joong boo which is a killer asian market with a food court, paulie gee’s for pizza, and reno. bars - spilt milk, reed’s local, quality time, consignment lounge, welcome back lounge, webster’s (if you wanna do wine shit), smallbar other - logan theater is a great spot to catch a movie, there’s usually local shows going on at sleeping village/the burlington/cole’s, open books & city lit are two killer bookstores (bucket of blood too, which is one neighborhood north in avondale), and village discount outlet is really good thrifting. there’s also a new record shop called signal records but i’ve not spent much time in there yet. usually cool dj sets at podlasie club if you wanna dance.
Lula Cafe is my favorite breakfast place, incredible pancakes and great menu in general. Paulie Gee's is great pizza, honey butter fried chicken isn't too far, Same Day Cafe and Reno are solid, Big Kids is pretty good, Lonesome Rose is great, Parson's is really good to especially if the weather was better. Cozy Corner is fine but its just a regular diner, wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for something interesting.
Middlebrow is stank. Haven’t been to Solemn Oath yet. A bit further down in Bucktown is Map Room which is a great beer bar. Life on Marz also dope.
Love Solemn Oath. Good spot. I’m at the point where I find most of Logan to not be my scene so I don’t head down that way often. SV, Central Park, and Metropolitan are some of my favorite places in Avondale.
