My sister lives in Chicago (Lakeview at Belmont and Racine) and I visit from Cleveland a fair amount. I have long debated about moving there. Would love to find a way to make that happen.
Glad this thread exists. I moved here about middle on July last year with my GF so she could start grad school. I've made some friends through her school, so that's cool and all, but it's pretty hard meeting people on your own. It's as if everything I've learned and ways I've made friends in the past have just one out the window and made me an extreme introvert haha. So what I'm saying is, if anyone is down to catch a show or grab a drink, I'd be down!
Someone should marry me so I can just move here instead of having to drive to Chicago all the time. It's a damn long drive.
Went to Burnt City Brewing (formerly Atlas) tonight and the food was really, really good. As was the barrel-aged Belgian I drank.
I honestly have anxiety over how many shows and festivals (whether it's music/food/etc) I want to go here this summer. I'm so used to living an area with nothing to do that this is overwhelming.
Welcome to summer in Chicago. I'm pissed I'm going to be out of town for Do Division Fest in two weekends, but at least I'll get to see The Lion King up in Madison.
Not trying to make matters worse but... This site has a pretty comprehensive list of festivals in the city this Summer. Scroll down about half way to get current. Most fests have released their line ups at this point, but not all. Everything I'm posting is either a $5/$10 donation or free. Wicker Park Fest (July 23-24) just announced their headliners for this year and they fucking crushed it. The Mountain Goats Rocket From the Crypt Pup Alvvays Other ones I wanna check out... 6/11- Kevin Devine at Ribfest (Lincoln Ave & Irving Park) 7/8- The Decemberists at Taste of Chicago (Grant Park) 7/9- Billy Idol at Taste of Chicago (Grant Park)
Yeah I'm blown away. I kinda figured Mountain Goats and RFTC were gonna be there since they're both playing random shows at Subt that weekend as well, but Pup and Alvvays being added really takes this into pinch myself territory. Not to mention the 10ish other bands that haven't even been announced yet. Fuckin' A man.
They've been killing it the past couple years. There was also a free locals-only show at Double Door during the fest last year. It'd be cool if they brought that back again.
Wife and I will be in town this weekend through the week. Going to hit up the Gelato World Tour and Mole de Mayo. I'm so excited for them!
There's. Just. SO. MUCH. Im definitely planning on trying to catch The Decemberists and also Wicker Park Fest. Im excited to catch Waxahatchee and Ratboys at Wicker Park Green Music Fest as well.
Im already trying to figure out how I'm gonna extend my Pitchfork Fest trip into catching Wicker Park Fest as well. Dear God is that some good booking.
Jeff Rosenstock and The Sidekicks are also playing Wicker Park Fest. They're scheduled for the 23rd, so I assume PUP will be that day as well.
Pup, Jeff Rosenstock, and The Sidekicks? That's awesome. Why do I have to be out of town that weekend? FML.
Yeah that Wicker Park Fest lineup this year is killer. Summer street fests in Chicago are one of my favorite parts about living here. Live music, awesome food and drinking on the streets outside . Also saw some people talking about Burnt City earlier... I went there last weekend (first time since the name change) and it was great. Really good food and drinks. I really want to go to Big Star soon and try the Smoked Pineapple Mexican Lager that Dryhop made for them.
If anyone is looking for something cool to do on Saturday night, I'm playing at Subterranean: Subterranean » Mark Rose – Tickets – Downstairs – Chicago, IL – May 28th, 2016 It'd be rad to see some Chorus people there!
Your sister lives in my neighborhood! I used to live at that intersection, now I'm about 6 blocks away!
I went to Big Star Friday and had Dry Hop's Smoked Pineapple beer. It's so good and I think only served there. They also have two new tacos I haven't tried before (one steak and one lamb/chorizo) and both were delicious.
