Did a road trip up the coast of California this past week. Loved LA, San Francisco is kind of iffy imo. I’ve only lived in Chicago for 3 years, and it’s my favorite city.
I lived in the Bay Area a long time ago and it was very nice. I've heard lately that SF is pretty gross these days due to a rampant homeless invasion.
This is a stupid post. Homelessness numbers are up everywhere, including in Chicago, and even in suburbs. The pandemic has exacerbated this. Also, it’s not an “invasion” (what, do you picture an underground bunker of homeless people coordinating migration or something?) and more that tech/big business have driven the cost of living in those areas up astronomically over the past two decades, which leads to people who may have been on the margins of poverty/working poor people into precariousness, and eventually higher levels of homelessness. Gtfo with that chud nonsense lol
Couple all that with the obliteration of resources that used to exist for people experiencing mental health issues - empirically shown to be exacerbated by poverty - and yes you’re going to be forcing more people into homelessness. That’s not the fault of those individuals, it’s the fault of the people in power (Republicans & Democrats alike) and the people who support those people in power (Republican voters and Democratic voters alike).
One better: From what I gather, IIRC and if we are to believe a 60 Minutes report, there are people who actually have full time jobs there that are still living on the streets. Maybe I could have written, "a unfortunate circumstances and rampant cost of living invasion"... but I didn't. I was paraphrasing some friends who still live out there. Chicago Nope. Not there. Just SF. Of course it's up everywhere. I didn't realize I'd had to list every city in America in my post lamenting the current state of my old hometown. Knee jerk reactionaries such as yourself make the rest of us Liberals look like morons. Your cancel culture is the worst. From the "Just in" desk: People are rude on the internet.
Stealing this from the Lolla thread: https://blockclubchicago.org/2022/0...-help-chicagoans-get-into-the-music-industry/
So apparently they have been doing renovations to The Riv? I haven't been there since shows came back but they have been posting on social media about making some real upgrades, which is nice. Now maybe it won't look so much like a dump inside.
Went to the Metro last night. The girl checkind IDs asked for a vaxx card. While I was trying to login to my Dropbox to get the card I muttered "are you guys still doing that?". She got super annoyed and started getting super defensive and said it's the owner's choice and she is just trying to do her job... She then proceeded to stare at my card and my ID for 5 seconds to make sure it's really me which is ironic because when the proof of vaccination was required it took them 0.005 seconds to verify it. I really didn't know venues in the city are still requiring it for entrance so I was genuinely surprised.
Isn't it a good thing they are still checking for proof of vax? Most venues still are anyways. At least (aside from Metro), Thalia Hall, Lincoln Hall/Schubas, Sleeping Village, Empty Bottle, Beat Kitchen, and Subterranean do. Also while she may have sounded pissed I'm sure she has to deal with a bunch of shit from people re: covid protocols and is sick of it. Like she said, she's just doing her job/what she was told to do.
Yeah, it is a good thing, I just wasn't expecting for businesses to still check for it with all the backlash and business they would lose. Can venues still require patrons to wear masks?
The Riv did not for MO/Foxing but is for PUP. I think the artists can choose to have it checked as well.
Some restaurants/bars are still requiring too. Off Color, Gman (part of Metro), are the ones off top of my head. I’ll still prefer patronizing those places over anywhere else
anyone ever used an in-home pet sitter service (someone staying at your place)? our last boarding experience was absolutely terrible and my dog ended up with kennel cough turning into pneumonia, so this time we hope to find someone to stay at our place for a week or at the very least do multiple lengthy check ins
I’m friends with a pet care person so I’ve done that before, really wouldn’t trust a service if it wasn’t someone I’ve known forever tho.
