To be clear, I don't dislike Pale Horse on first listen, it just didn't sound as in your face as their openers usually do. The Clincher, Sleep Apnea, Door To Door Cannibals, they usually go hard right out the gate. Even Verrukt works as a statement of intent. I dunno, it just didn't scream "opener to the album" to me.
Listened to this again this morning and everything hit a lot harder in just the right ways. By God, they've done it again.
I’m liking it. It’s a solid album, yet just a little too short for my liking. Wolves and Karma are really interesting progressions in their sound. Pete’s voice also seems a bit too high in the mix for me, especially with the head voice stuff he’s doing on this one. Wish they’d go back to Garth Richardson to record.
I dig Pale Horse a lot, even as an opener. I've had the "you've been waaaaaarned" stuck in my head since I heard it.
Album is fantastic, there’s no weak tracks imo, just some stronger than others. I do feel like the album is missing something, like it needed some breathing room in between some of the tracks or maybe just one more song to round things out. Still think these guys have a flawless discography.
running through the discog for the first time since niratias dropped and forgot that every release from this band rules. crazy how many of their best songs are chilling as bonus tracks too, glimpse of the con may singularly be their best song new album is so good too, beau did an amazing job w them. that and private music back to back is such a crazy 1+2 punch of new music. wish this was getting as much attention as that haha stoked to see them in two days!
sci fi crimes is such a special album, all timer chevelle song after all timer song. love everything of theirs but they were on another level for that one
I feel like you'd get a different answer if you asked most people their favorite album. For me, I don't think they've come close to topping Vena Sera. This Type of Thinking and Wonder What's Next are both pretty perfect from start to finish. I actually think Sci-Fi Crimes and Hats Off to the Bull is my least favorite two album stretch.
vena sera is actually my 2nd fav haha i think each of the 4 starting from wonder whats next levels up from the next, hats off was the first album they put out that didnt top its predecessor for me but i still really like a lot of songs on it. my least fav 1+2 is la gargola + north corridor but they still both whip. theyre a case of "this doesnt really play to the aesthetics i prefer this band dwelling in but its undeniably great at what it does" for me
Sci-Fi is probably my favorite, if I had to pick one. The entire UFO/alien aesthetic and vibe on that record was just always so cool to me. I saw them headline on that tour and it was great - tons of little digital flourishes and taped interludes that made the whole vibe atmospheric and a little creepy.
im hoping for something like that tonight also revisiting niratias and the goddamn back half of this thing is insane, endlessly through ghost and razor might be their best 3 song run ever
La Gargola is underrated. I like Hats and it's held up well over time but remember feeling like it was a bit muted for them when it came out and Gargola starting with the 1-2 punch of Ouija Board and An Island was like getting kicked in the face Choking Game is also mad underrated, maybe their best song period
Vena Sera is my favorite as well. I feel like I'm in the vast minority with that being my favorite album haha. Good to see I'm not alone.
they were phenomenal last night, pete especially. dudes screams look like they come so effortlessly out of him its nuts lmao
CHEVELLE's PETE LOEFFLER: 'The Guitar Is Starting To Become More Of A Struggle To Write A Song With Than It Used To Be' Sounds like the next album might be a New Sound Album.
