For me, the back half of La Gargola is what took a long time to gel with me, but I guess I've been in just the right mood for it to finally land. It and most of North Corridor are just heavy, noisy, screamy-pants rock, and I crave that right now. WHO HAS THE LIFE TO SPEND ON THIS WHEN YOU'RE THE LAST TO KNOW I STARTED 1976 THAT WASN'T FAST ENOUGH
Pretty solid, not their best but def some bangers. Short overall though while including some slow ones.
only listened to the first 4-5 but not really feeling this so far? the vocals on the opener are all over the place
Albums excellent. Not my favorite but that's okay. Hard for me to rank their albums when most times Chevelle just sounds like Chevelle lol.
Chevelle is like the Bad Religion of post-grunge/active rock. Not necessarily a ton of peaks but also not a ton of valleys and are almost alarmingly consistent.
alright revising my opinion a little bit. I think I was turned off by the opener and a little bored of song 4. But Wolves and Karma Goddess go hard, the latter has a doom metal like riff that rules We'll see how the rest goes
Getting Chevelle and Deftones within a week is awesome. Some solid tracks on here. Think I liked 5 out of 9. Pretty good for this band in 2025 if you ask me.
On my second listen now, but my initial impressions are overwhelmingly positive. This connected with me pretty much instantly. Agree with the production, too. Sounds great.
Had to break up my first listen but I liked it. I'm not sure I like what Pete is doing with his voice now a days. Some of the higher pitched "crooning?". idk. Also Rabbit Hole 1 and 2 are the weaker ones on this to me. And I know they were singles. Need some more time with it. and yeah Shocked at the end of the world was a standout for sure.
Took a first listen to this today and I like it, of course. Really the only criticism I have is that it's too damn short. Yes, I know the last album technically only had eight full length songs (subtracting Test Test Enough because it's barely a song and Lost In Digital Woods because it's spoken word), but it felt longer? Maybe all the instrumentals did a good job of filling the space and making it feel meatier than it was. (Actually just looked some stuff up and apparently NIRATIAS was Chevelle's longest album??? Wild stuff.) Here we have nine songs and it just feels like it's over way too quick, besides being Chevelle's shortest album to date. I need more Chevelle in my life! Great stuff though. I like that this balances between atmosphere (Hallucinations, Blood Out In The Fields) and straight up heaviness (Jim Jones, Wolves, AI Phobias), and I think Chevelle is best when they cover all aspects of their sound. Pale Horse is an odd one to open with though, doesn't feel as in your face as their previous openers. Might need to chew on that one a bit more.
Man I actually love Pale Horse haha, surprised that one seems to be more polarizing. That and the closer are probably my top two, whole thing is solid though.
