The rapping was initially my least favorite thing about the record and after reading the lyrics it’s one of my favorite aspects. It feels tongue-in-cheek to me in the best way possible, like they know what they’re doing is ridiculous and shouldn’t work but they’re gonna do it anyway. I adore that this record doesn’t take itself too seriously.
I hope so!! I’m honestly just so glad people are giving it a legitimate chance. Also can we talk about how incredible the drumming on this is?
Today I learned that Skye writes all the music and lyrics in Cheem, including mapping out the drums to midi, which are then slightly re-interpreted and recorded proper by their drummer. That dude deserves a fucking medal.
I hope it does! It did for me in a very big way. There’s really just way too much going on here to really catch it all on first glance.
I'm catching up on releases this month, spun this last night and wowzer its something special! Such a strange combination of sounds and infulences that somehow manages to not go overboard, which it easily could have. Only thing I don't like are a few of the rapping verses on here. Some of those kinda took me out of it. Otherwise a really interesting and cool record I'll definitely be listening to more often
Skye and Gabe are also in this band that just released their first single today, thought I’d share it here catch u, by Brain Bank
