If you guys want a delicious little case, look up People v. Hochberg some time.

Long story short: a Democrat assemblyman seeks out a local labor leader who he suspects will run against him in his re-election bid. The labor guy has no such intent. But the assemblyman, to prevent his primary opposition, offers him a lucrative legislative job plus campaign contributions for a future bid once the assemblyman moves on to a higher office.

Seems like a normal and fairly innocuous bribery bit. But the assemblyman fails to consider the labor dude is a radical communist. The labor guy tape records all the bribes, turns in the tapes, and testifies against the assemblyman in court. The assemblyman's only defense was that this was concocted by the labor guy because h e was a "militant communist" trying to topple the US political system.

@Dominick what do you say to charges that "The State and Revolution" was at worst insincere and at best simply contrary to the actions Lenin took after gaining power re: shutting down of the provisional government and the constituent assembly, the latter of which would've given power to Soviet Councils that would've opposed the Bolsheviks; disallowing worker's strikes; centralizing the red army; de-democratizing bureaucratic positions; the whole general consolidation of power in the party thing. I mean, I understand the arguments of protecting the revolution from internal opposition and civil war and invasion but it's hard to accept that for two reasons, them being that some of his actions in consolidating power exasperated internal tensions and that in the end, his actions look a lot more like "What Is To Be Done?" than "The State and Revolution," which makes arguments for necessity kind of suspect.

And you know, how legitimate is the revolution as such when "unquestioning submission to a single will is absolutely necessary."

Highly recommend reading anything by Andreas Malm. Do want to fully read (a journal article in Historical Materialism covers a good chunk of it) Fossil Capitalism once my thesis is done.

Little did conservatives expect that their loosening of gun control laws would make a socialist revolution that much easier

Some friends and I are trying to start an organization in our town's DIY punk community center. Aside from just donations, what more can we do?
