Didn’t like this much at all sadly. I knew they would be going more pop but I hope this isn’t a strong indicator of what the the new album sounds like as a whole :(
damn, i hate being a miser but it's guppy-era CB or bust for me. hoped for the best going in, but this song puts me to sleep. per usual, glad they're still hitting for most of you all and i'll show myself out
You're not alone - I love this band the most when they’re guitar driven and leaning into the 90’s alt rock feel. I think Young Enough was the perfect blend of that along with solid pop tunes so here’s to hoping the new record is the same.
loved Young Enough, not sold on this song yet but I have a strong feeling I'll fall for it eventually.
Judging by what the band on the Jimmy Eat World tour, I would expect more of this sound than guitar-driven stuff.
Kinda bummed to hear that just because they were so good at blending the guitars in with the synth pop, but if this is what they're passionate about then I'm definitely interested to hear more of their take on it.
Today, New York pop savants Charly Bliss are back with “You Don’t Even Know Me Anymore“, their first new music since 2019’s critically acclaimed album Young Enough, and its subsequent Supermoon EP. The track, produced by Jake Luppen of Hippo Campus and Caleb Wright, ushers in a new, more playful era for the band. “I moved to Australia and felt a million miles away from who I had been in New York. Like I had been reborn happy, carefree, and slightly less pale,” explains lead singer Eva Hendricks. “I was convinced that I had totally bypassed the ‘wherever you go, there you are’ thing. Lexapro also helped. I think this song is a farewell to how sad and tortured I felt during the Young Enough album cycle. It’s like the ‘fuck it!’ that you earn after burning your entire life down and starting over. Sam sent me the track and it felt exactly as joyous and silly and giddy as I felt inside. It came together quickly and set the tone for a new CB era.”
Sorry to bump this thread with no news but is anyone else slightly confused with the no album announcement yet? Obviously bands can take as long as they want to release an album but it seemed like back when they played that run of shows earlier this year they were gearing up for the whole album announcement thing and fully starting the machine again, but since then we got the one song nearly a month ago and nothing else. I just hope everything is okay behind the scenes and they are able to release the album.
Here's my attempt at gossip and guessing based on absolutely nothing..... I get the sense that they're not as 100% invested in the band as orher bands are. For a band that seemed on the cusp of really breaking out, their timeline, and extended break doesn't come off as a band that really sees Charly Bliss as this vehicle to the big bucks and success And maybe that's another thing. While the band rules, maybe they really haven't caught on like they hoped? Like some other indie darlings, they really didn't climb the charts as others. Their shows don't tend to sell out in some smaller venues. So maybe they're just not super motivated to continue the monotonous lifestyle of being in a mildly successful band. The kind of band that has to tour constantly just to make money. I think i read that Eva met some guy and moved to Australia or New Zealand and has stated how she's happy. I've got no idea what the others are doing right now. Okay there's domotime speculation on ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
Let’s not forget that Australia had international borders closed from March 2020 until February 2022 - any in the same studio recording would’ve been impossible with Eva living here the band are likely going to start the album or EP campaign soon, heaps of bands have delayed releases in the last few years due to vinyl delays and distribution issues
It’s like the hottest it has been in Chicago all summer so I look extra gross and my face is partially cut off because I rushed to take the picture but I met Eva tonight at the Beach Bunny Pool Party
IDK why and it's probably not fair but when bands with women in them and bands with LGTBQ members still play with bands that have connections with abusers it stings even more.
Apparently deleted, but they said they canceled their dates with Front Bottoms because of unforeseen circumstances.
