Charlie Simpson

I have no idea how there isn't a Charlie Simpson thread. It looks like he might be releasing a new album soon based on this post on his instagram page below.

also some songs to get started if you've never listened to him before. He's in two other bands, Busted and Fightstar. I'm not as knowledgeable on those, so I'll stick to his solo stuff.

 

My favourite musician for as long as I can remember. His music has been a constant in my life for 17-18 years, so to hear that teaser clip immediately put a huge smile on my face. Can’t wait for this album rollout.

 

Yeah I was just coming to make the thread, ha. I'm so ready to hear what he does next.

 

I like that a lot. I wasn't expecting the chorus to come in like it did. Is it just me or does his voice sound different? Maybe produced differently? more noticeable autotune? Something. Also wish we had info on if this is a one off single or an album.

 

I feel like there's definitely more of a mainstream pop production quality to it than his other solo stuff. I actually thought it was gonna be more autotuned based on the preview, ha. I like it a lot too, I'm sure there's an album coming, just think it'll be a while yet.

 

I hope it's an album. It's insane that it's been 6+ years since Long Road Home.

 

That production style tends to irk me.

Don't really like the song too much, although I have to say Charlie's falsetto gets better and better with age. He manages to still sound recognisably himself when he gets into the high register.

 

it's the kind of song I normally wouldn't like but I just can't deny his vocals/melodies and I love the lyrics. I think overall it's super well done. Very interested to see what kind of album he'd write around this though.

agreed, the falsetto is def the best part of the new song

 

“Blameless” is pretty fantastic. Loving the return of those layered harmonies.

 

yeah i love this one. his voice still sounds a little more processed than i would prefer, but this slaps.

 

Really curious to hear what he does with this sound over a full album.

 

Don't like that at all tbh. Nothing catches me or intrigues me enough to play it again. His melody choices are so uninteresting to me nowadays.

Ignore me being a downer, glad you guys like it.

 

Definitely a fan of Blameless and I See You. Cool sound from him, excited to hear more.

 

I’m so close/tempted to splashing $450 AUD on that annual tier three Patreon page he’s setting up.

 

I considered it but couldn't justify it to myself, lol. Went with Comet monthly for now, might upgrade to Lion at some point just for the demo vault if I hear there's a good amount of stuff there. Hopefully he updates it often, would love to see a lot of behind the scenes stuff.

 

The new version of Palahniuk's Laughter on his Patreon is sick. Very cool breakdown of Down Down Down too. I really hope he keeps this up regularly, there's so many songs I'd love to see.

 

I finally did it. “Palahniuk's Laughter” sounds unreal. It’s nice to hear him go all out vocally - he sounds better than ever.

 

Excited! I hope we get news on a full album soon.

 

Vaughly remember him saying he was just doing singles for the time being

 

He's said in the qna's for both singles that he's working on an album and it will come eventually but it's not done yet so he's just putting some singles out. I'm hoping it's not too far off since I pretty much never listen to single songs.

 

I love it, especially the verses. I think I like it more than Blameless, less than I See You.

 

Young Pilgrim is back on all streaming services. It's been off of the major ones in the US for a while so this is a pretty big deal for me.
