Remi is the only pop artist I’m excited about this year unless Charli’s album proves me wrong or Carly or Grimes come out of the blue with something Grimes could be another candidate, actually
confirmed this is the "Janet Jackson inspired" album BBC Radio 1 - Radio 1's Future Sounds, with Tom Grennan “The album is still in the works it leans into 80’s sounds, I was really inspired by Janet Jackson for this record, I’m excited for people to hear it”
How I’m Feeling Now is way more my thing, but I’m willing to give the album a try cause it’s Charli, baby.
There’s part of me that’s like “ehhh, it’s probably not gonna be as exciting as the last few years of her output”… but then, if it means her reaching a wider audience, higher production values, and more promo, that’s cool too. Or maybe the album is somehow a perfect blend of what she’s been doing and a big mainstream sound and goes huge. Who knows, but if there’s anyone that can put together such an album, it’s Charli.
I’m late to the convo and she’s nowhere near as big as those artists but Poppy is a good example of a pop artist that frequently changes things up
Rina Sawayama is definitely a pop star that can play in a lot of different spaces and I feel like she’s just begun to find her sound.
For like the past decade, Katy Perry has talked about her big acoustic album she’s had gestating. But I think she got too worried about her relevancy and never got around to it. Probably wouldn’t have helped her career, but would have been interesting.
Marina’s also tried to switch it up. But her new stuff has been dull as dirt since she dropped the Diamonds from her name.
I don't know why, but no incarnation of Marina ever excited me, I haven't heard anything from her that seemed more than good I guess
That’s understandable. I liked her first two albums a lot. But it’s been more bad than good since then.
I think there’s a pretty steep dropout after the first four or five tracks, but man does the first half really do it for me on that album
