Charli was fine and all. This is excellent. Feels like the true follow up to Pop 2.

 

“7 years”

instantly one of her all time best songs.

 

Yeah the way that “7 years” ends is incredible and then how “detonate” starts it sounds like a heart racing.

 

This is very good. I've missed the boat on all of her other releases so I'm happy to get into this one!

 

I revisited self-titled today to compare. this is def stronger as a cohesive thing but wow I did not give "White Mercedes" or "February 2017" their due before. two of her best songs

 

February is probably my favourite song on there. Just a perfect few minutes of music.

 

"Official" is still like, maybe my favourite song by her, but "February" is a close second on that album. when it explodes into the chorus is just a holy fuck moment

 

Did you ever circle back to Pop 2?

pop 2 is the masterclass of the entire genre. GET ON IT!

Charli has many flashes of brilliance while trying to be too much at once almost

 

This thread made realize that more people are down on Charli (album) than I thought. It's more scattered sonically and doesn't cohere like this or Pop 2 (though its flow feels natural after listening to it dozens of times lol) but it has so many of her best songs. Next Level Charli, Gone (!!!), Click, Warm, Silver Cross, February 2017, 2099. They definitely sound more polished and labored over than here and on Pop 2 but it really works for that set of songs.

 

Apparently I’ve heard the beat for C2.0 before! AG Cook played it during his set opening for Caroline Polachek that I saw in February

 

It’s definitely grown on me since it’s release and I agree that it has many of her best songs. Gone might be her best.

Pretty hard to believe the four album stretch she’s currently on, even more crazy if you factor in Vroom Vroom and some fantastic one off singles.
